She was probably the Grand Kaioshin of that time. There are always five of them : Grand, East, West, North, South. The Grand Kaioshin was killed but greatly weakened XXI and put the fear of God (literally) in him. Then XXI tracked and trapped our elder Kaioshin (who was no doubt one of the four cardinal directions), and the other three took the occasion to finish him off.

I would imagine that we'll learn XXI's origin in a later chapter.

So the Kaioshin were able to beat XXI with just raw power? That's disappointing and almost nonsensical. It's not quite a plothole but it's a little weird. This version of XXI lacks all of the qualities that make the one in the tournament such a threat. Tournament XXI is strong enough to fight and defeat Gast after wearing him down and also disintegrate a part of u4 Buu, this one beat just one or two kaioshin before losing to the rest. Tournament XXI showcases a variety of magic, this one just uses a sealing spell, and for no good reason as far as I can tell (it seems to be just as an explanation for why elder kai is sealed). Tournament XXI is incredibly cautious and smart, this one just a dumb monster. It's odd that elder kai is worried about such a weakling. Majin Buu, Cell and maybe even Bojack could have all beaten this XXI.

so I'm assuming the kaioshin here was just strong enough to wound xxi to the point he couldn't recover quickly, and died shortly after sealing old kai into the blade, and then enchanted it against other kaioshin from lifting it.

No, he actually can't, partly because that would mean he couldn't remove the bomb without permission either. This was a mistake by the viz translators I think. Shenron only actually said that the Androids were beyond his reach of power, and that he couldn't interfere in the lives of beings beyond his capabilites.

Basically the same thing. the saiyans surpass god, and can't be dealt with. the strength is the biggest factor here, and while its not canon to dbm obviously, they later did some really dumb things in later db canon where they had the db's effect 18 without asking her if it was kosher, as in turning her into a kid.

I think some people are just upset that he says it's easy to understand, or are annoyed at his arrogance which I get to a point, but he's grown quite a bit since then, so he's a great deal smarter than before, but still young, so he's a little cocky because of it. Ultimately it's just the writer's choice to make him look smarter and cooler than Bulma, her dad and even Gero. It's just not appealing, even moreso because they're important OG characters.

I think it's great that the Saiyan transformations in DBM actually have different advantages and disadvantages and basically force you to strategize. I was never a fan of how often (both in canon and fanon) the weaker forms are rendered obsolete as soon as a new form is achieved. Far too often, it is assumed that the new form is identical to the previous one, except that it gives you a higher number.
