Chapter 18

Translated by Virgilio212 & proofread by ZenBuu

Buu had been working on his research for three weeks straight. He felt both fascination and anguish as he discovered more and more rituals and formulas of all kinds. There was so much to absorb. It's a shame he couldn't absorb these books! He would have all the data instantly. But he still had eternity ahead of him to study it—well, if an enemy didn't defeat him first...

One night, while working on a spellbook, Buu stretched, letting out a long yawn. Normally, he didn't worry about fatigue. But all this reading had left him groggy. So he decided to go outside for some fresh air, just to stretch his legs and enjoy the planet's warm sky.

Outside, night had fallen over Icarion. A chilly silence reigned over the sleeping city of Alcmene. Standing in front of the library entrance, Buu took a deep breath of the fresh air before taking flight and moving away from the surface.

The Djinn was still deep in thought. Magic was far beyond his comprehension. Even his own adepts didn't help him much. Not even the Kaioshins'. He himself also had magical powers. He could transform objects and living things into something else. He could heal wounds, even fatal ones, and some diseases. His body's regeneration was due to magic. But he quickly reached the absolute limits of this matter. In the order of the universe, sorcerers were a very special breed. He had within him the geniuses of brute combat and the experts of science. He knew how to manipulate Ki, just as he now knew how to assemble nuclear warheads, should the need arise.

But magic… he didn't understand how it worked, where it came from, what its effects were, or how far it could reach. This unknown entity that hid so many answers frightened him. What if a spell removed everyone absorbed into him? What if a magical spell struck his body, forcing him to return to his former form, back to his original form? Becoming a child again was his greatest fear. He valued his intelligence too much to bear the prospect of losing it.

At least the last few weeks have been instructive. There was a pleasant surprise in the presence of young Thorn, whose company he enjoyed. The Alcmenian showed some enthusiasm around Buu, who began to subject him to basic training. In less than twenty days, Thorn was able to manipulate his Ki and create weak balls of energy. Soon, Buu would teach him a way to fly. The Djinn found true joy in passing on his knowledge. He was immersed in a never-ending quest to acquire knowledge and talents of all kinds; he knew what it meant to learn and grow through encounters and trials.

While training Thorn, Buu had visions of Son Gohan advising Videl before the start of the Tenkaichi Budokai. With that realization he had on Earth through Satan and the others, Buu understood the richness of those moments these mortals lived. When he knew only hatred and the taste for blood. Those experiences, those memories... they were treasures in his eyes that he would never give up. He gave his all, he survived, and he overcame to become the incredible entity he was now. If he was influenced by the sleeping minds of his engrossed, so be it. He would take advantage of it to savor, at best, all his future encounters.

As he let his thoughts wander, Buu noticed a change in the atmosphere around him. The peaceful sky grew increasingly roaring, shrouded in a veil of dark clouds. Suddenly, a flash dazzled him, forcing him to place his hands over his eyes. He then sensed an incredible aura in front of him.

“What…?” he began to say before feeling a strong shock to his head.

He was pushed back and managed to stabilize himself. Shocked, he saw an individual standing in front of him, resting his right leg, the one he had used to strike the pink demon. Buu didn't recognize what species the being was; its greenish body and the tattoos covering its face were unfamiliar to him. But what he did know was that this person possessed extraordinary power. Stunned at first, Buu recovered and laughed with joy.

"Ah, it's about time! I really wasn't asking for much, wanting such a powerful man to challenge me," Buu rejoices, getting into a fighting stance. "I don't know who you are, but you should know that it's too late for regrets now. I'll knock you down and devour you right after!"

"Your threats don't matter to me, monster," the stranger said with a murderous look. "I'm here for one thing only: to eliminate you."

The warrior suddenly disappeared, surprising Buu, who looked around in search, but to no avail. He felt a violent impact on the back of his head, leaving him dizzy. Before he could regain his senses, another blow struck him in the abdomen, knocking the breath out of him. It was then that, deep down, the Djinn rediscovered a detestable sensation he never thought he would experience again. It was pain.

The unknown warrior unleashed a flurry of rapid blows on Buu, carving ever-deeper marks into the pink creature's soft body. Stunned, Buu took a moment to recover and quickly felt an immense rage overcome him. He repeatedly attempted to strike his opponent, who dodged easily, and responded with equal ease.

After a few minutes of struggling, Buu was pushed to the surface, where he fell, shaking the entire continent. From the rising cloud of dust, Buu struggled to his feet, his body trembling with pain and confusion. From the edge of the crater, the stranger glared at him sternly.

"Stop resisting, Buu," he shouted, reaching out to his opponent. "I know everything about you. You can't win... for once."

"Only in your dreams!" Buu said angrily, running towards him.

The warrior sent an energy wave that Buu dodged, creating a hole in his stomach. Using teleportation, Buu reappeared behind him to surprise him, but his enemy blocked his blow and responded with a powerful elbow strike to his abdomen. Spitting out a stream of saliva, Buu collapsed to the ground, while his enemy circled around him, watching.

Filled with boundless fury, Buu straightened up and displayed the full extent of his ingenuity. He possessed the genius of the Saiyans: Son Goku, Vegeta, Son Gohan… He had Piccolo's tactical sense and his own innate combat talent. No matter who this mysterious warrior was, he could never stand against Buu, the quintessence of the art of combat incarnate!

Launching himself at his opponent who was about to counterattack, Buu suddenly split into a wave of tiny, ghostly versions of himself, while his main body moved skyward. In the space of a second, all his pieces exploded into violent conflagrations around the enemy as they took up positions in the air.

“Kaaaa...meee...haaaa...me...”

Buu focused about half of his power on his technique, wanting to avoid destroying Icarion in the process. But he had to get rid of this stranger quickly, before he became a real headache.

— Ha!

The destructive wave hit the ground with a crushing impact. However, instead of annihilating the area as Buu expected, the energy was slowly repelled by a small ball of Ki that was thrown at it. Below, the attacker had his arm extended toward the Kamehameha, giving momentum to the attack.

Then he clenched his fist. Immediately, his Ki sphere grew and advanced toward Buu, whose Kamehameha seemed to have no effect. Devastated by surprise, Buu didn't dodge the attack in time and disintegrated. The energy ball was lost in space as the stranger flew away again. In an icy voice, he exclaimed:

"Come on, regenerate, demon. This insignificant attack couldn't have hurt you that much. Show yourself."

Several streams of smoke appeared and met at a precise point. Buu quickly recovered, panting and trembling.

“Damn it... Who the hell do you think you are, you scoundrel? You know who I am, don't you? I've dealt with far greater threats; you can't match Vegetto, you worm, and certainly not me!”

Buu caused thick smoke to emerge from the holes in his body, obscuring his opponent's vision. Since his fight with Vegetto, he had learned from his mistakes and now knew how to sense the slightest movement in the air, relying more on his senses than his eyes. But that was just the beginning of his fighting genius.

Reaching out, he created two balls of energy that took the form of two kamikaze ghosts in his image. With cruel laughter, the ghosts ran into the mist and shouted:

“Galactic Donut!”

Satisfied, Buu positioned himself to unleash a monumental Final Flash. He sensed his opponent hadn't moved; he must have been immobilized by the ghosts' attack. Ready to attack, Buu exclaimed:

“Swallow this, you trash—”

But before he could finish or even begin his movement, his mouth was pierced by a long beam of energy. Two explosions echoed from further away, expelling the smoke to reveal his enemy, who was still free to move, a blade of Ki emanating from his outstretched hand.

"It's... it's impossible!" Buu panicked inwardly.

"It's funny that you mention him," the stranger said. "He was your most intense and difficult fight, wasn't he? If you couldn't defeat him, how will you be able to deal with someone infinitely stronger and with the same techniques?"

Unleashing his blade, he moved without warning toward Buu, who couldn't recover in time. The enemy cut him in half with his power sword and dispelled it, then sent dozens of Kikohas at the Djinn, who was disintegrated again. But he immediately regenerated, a look of terror on his face.

"How do you know how to do that? How can you resist me like that?" Buu exclaimed angrily.

"Simply because I have studied you for a thousand years," the stranger replied. "I come from a distant future, where you ruled the universe in a tyrannical manner. Through countless sacrifices of innocent people and warriors, I have come to know everything about you. I have seen your struggles, your defeat against the Saiyan fusion. The greatest talents in the universe that escaped you have given me all their powers. Mages, fighters, scientists—my body has become the ultimate weapon of your hopes and your wrath. You can do nothing against me. You are too weak, too fragile, in your current state. I will be able to free billions of innocent people from the terrible fate you have in store for them! And I will kill you with the effective techniques of my ancestor Vegetto!"

The stranger reached out to Buu, and the Djinn's legs instantly disappeared. Instantly, Buu began to tremble in terror. This trash really did have the same technique as Vegetto!

Desperate, he lunged at his enemy and struck him full force in the face. But his confidence turned to despair when he saw that his opponent had taken the blow without flinching, his face barely moving. With a stern look, the stranger stared at Buu as his tattoos began to glow.

"It's over, demon. You're still too weak right now. The future of this world will be saved from the horrors you perpetrated. Disappear!"

The tattoos glowed so brightly that they dazzled Buu, as he felt himself inexorably drawn back into the form of a simple ball, without arms or legs. Terrified, he couldn't shake the curse as his enemy reached for him again.

“Goodbye,” he said simply.

“NO!” Buu let out one last scream.

“AH!” Buu shouted, collapsing to the ground.

His fall caused a resounding crash that made everyone in the library flinch. No one dared make a sound, except Thorn, who ran to Buu to help him up.

"Master Buu! Are you okay?" he asked worriedly, kneeling beside him.

"What... what happened?" Buu stammered, looking at his student in confusion.

"You dozed off, master. I didn't want to wake you, but you seemed restless in your sleep."

“I see... did I say something while I was sleeping?” said the Djinn, straightening up.

"You said you would eliminate all threats, master," Thorn replied with a shy smile. "You truly are our protector!"

“Alright…of course, I will defend them” Buu smiles before stepping back and diving into his thoughts.

So it was just a bad dream. What a terrible nightmare!

Reaching the outside, Buu took flight and, seeing that it matched the dream he'd just seen, looked around anxiously. But nothing seemed to happen. He sighed and began to think.

It was very rare for him to fall asleep like this. All that time spent studying magical texts and training his student had exhausted him mentally. And that moment of weakness unleashed his worst fears in a powerful slap in the face in the form of a dream.

He knew he was eternal, he knew he was all-powerful. But millions of years were a long time. And fate could prove to be the villain. Trunks returned from the future to warn his people of the cyborgs' arrival. Anyone with the same technology could do this to face him. Suddenly, he felt extremely weak and vulnerable. Anyone prepared enough could easily overcome him. Especially those wretched mages...

Buu was silent for a moment. Then, a few moments later, he started laughing, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Was he vulnerable? Well, so be it.

If any potential enemy could prepare to fight him, he would prepare as well.

And he will be ready.

It was time to step things up a notch and get back to work. Exploring the universe and studying everything, he abandoned his power and relied solely on his current strength. But the day would come when that wouldn't be enough. He had to become much stronger. If, by some miracle, a being like Vegetto crossed his path, he would be ready to receive him.

Buu immediately teleported to the now deserted Kaioshin Kai, and without wasting time, he unleashed his full power. The land of the gods shook violently, a roar of thunder echoing across the sky as electric circles swept through Buu's purple aura, large veins bulging out from his muscles. Gradually, he reduced the intensity of his energy to a stable aura and looked at his hands in bewilderment.

From memory, Vegetto used nearly the same level of energy when fighting as a Super Saiyan. That comparison was enough to put his senses on alert. The unfortunate man barely put up any effort to fight, while his strength barely reached the level of the now-vanished Saiyan.

He had to reach unparalleled heights. Become so powerful that even despair would be tormented.

If he were studied, he would have to be unpredictable and always have one last trump card up his sleeve. Never reveal all his skills, always surprising his opponent in every circumstance.

Buu didn't know if traditional training could make him progress. But his body demanded effort. His Saiyan-influenced mind demanded he surpass himself. And deep down, he never truly changed his original nature: that of a warrior.

Buu let out a loud laugh in the vastness of the completely empty divine land, which echoed back to him the echo of his own impetus. He was now intoxicated by this new certainty.

He would become unsurpassed in all areas and domains.

Buu returned to Icarion's library, surprising Thorn, who wasn't used to his master's teleportation. The latter gently patted him on the shoulder to reassure him and said,

"It's okay, don't worry. I had a really bad vision while I was sleeping, but my motivation only grew stronger. Are you always willing to give your all to help me, Thorn?"

“Y-... yes, I am!“ replied the Alcmenian in a resolute voice.

"You amaze me!" Buu exclaimed, patting him on the back. "Get ready, because we're going to pick up the pace. Besides your training, you'll also help me improve. As for all these texts here... I think I have a good idea in mind."

Buu grabbed a piece of his arm and levitated it into the air under Thorn's astonished gaze. Gradually, the fragment took the form of a mini-Buu, identical to his original self.

"This part of me will take care of getting you to continue the basics of combat starting tomorrow," Buu explained. "For my part, I'll keep reading those works on magic. I have to understand a few things about time..."

“The weather?” Thorn wondered.

"I'll explain later. We'll resume our activities tomorrow. Now leave me alone."

Thorn didn't insist any further and left, while Buu and his miniature doppelganger began working on the books. The Djinn thought as he read: it was very convenient to be able to separate into two distinct entities. In combat, all his parts were synchronized. But for more... intellectual activities, he found it difficult to follow two points of view simultaneously. He would have to practice maintaining control. Splitting up was indeed a much faster way to multitask. He would dedicate time to this exercise.

He gave a small smile as he concluded a new chapter. The sequel promised to be very interesting.
