I suppose the tournament rules did not have any details on what kind of wishes are acceptable. That said, XXI is taking a sizable risk with triggering the commotion now, as South Kaio Shin is almost looking for any excuse to send everyone home, something that XXI himself orchestrated. Not even trying for a peaceful solution, for example by asking to make the wishes himself and lulling the Namekians into a false sense of security by giving U19 its wish first, is a questionable move. If XXI used the time stop before Goku got back from the alternate dimension, he could have been sitting there alone for an eternity - he could not hurt Goku because he wasn't back yet, and Goku would not reappear, ever, because, well, time was stopped. So XXI had to activate the time stop at the exact moment Goku got back from the alternate dimension, which on the other hand requires quick reflexes, an area where NSSJ Goku should be vastly superior to XXI. 1 Replie(s)

It is rather regrettable that they're not being consistent with their own portrayal of XXI's physical abilities. The fight against #18 showed that XXI does NOT have NSSJ-level reflexes (not even close, actually), as he felt he could not have reacted to #18's attack in time, the remote working out for him only because he kept pushing the button from the start of the match. In other words, if Goku would have attacked immediately after breaking out of the dimension, XXI would have had no way to activate the time stop in, err, time, at least based on his past portrayal. (The accelerated time dimension was a different situation, because if Goku moved too quickly, the organizers might have missed the moment when he touched the ground, and he could have been disqualified. So XXI being able to activate his spell at the exact moment made sense.)

Actually, when I first saw the previous page, I thought Goku was using Bra's/Vegetto's "dummy" technique and baiting XXI with a lifelike double. It's hard to tell whether something is real or not if you can simply break everything apart with a punch while time is frozen (as I'k'l did with Vegetto). Then even his "stalling" from two pages ago would have made sense.
Also, the really frustrating thing with the time stop is that we don't really know its mechanism, the way we know how XXI's "accelerated time dimension" works. Does the time stop have a maximum range? Could Goku have avoided it if he went really far from the arena? What do the androids have that makes them immune?
And even if Goku would have lost the same way... at least let him land a kick or something. He did manage to evade XXI's first attack, after all, he earned himself that opening. XXI wouldn't die from such an attack, or even a hundred such attacks - his "wizard" form is just a puppet, as we saw. But then Goku would have been at least shown putting up a fight. 1 Replie(s)

And so, after so many years, the Multiverse Tournament ends. With a whimper.

What an utter disgrace. Salagir went and humiliated the main protagonist of Dragonball, showing little respect to him in this fight or to those who care about the character - the childhood hero of many people, myself included. Worse still, from the buildup and, heck, the chapter cover itself, this seems to be no fluke, but a genuine attempt to troll the readers.

Just to make things perfectly clear: the issue here is NOT that XXI won the match, and thus the tournament. XXI winning could have been a great twist, especially after the foreshadowing suggested that XXI himself was not sure of his victory. Most people would have expected Goku to win somehow, and defying expectations can be a good thing, if done well. Goku trying his best and still failing could have been epic.

But instead, Goku lost like a moron.

Every single opponent of XXI, even Vegetto who confronted him first, knew that they should not give him the chance to cast any spells or use other magic. Heck, even Goku showed awareness of this fact at the start of the match, when he tried to arrange things so he could transform PRIOR to the beginning of the battle. So then, after breaking out of XXI's alternate dimension, why, just WHY in the name of all kaio shins did he simply stand there, monolouging like an idiot??? That was his chance, his ONLY chance in fact to strike back, and he wasted it. According to Vegeta, less than a second is pretty much "an eternity" in this form, so he apparently wasted more than an eternity to brag - and paid for it with his life. His defeat is utterly humiliating.

Call me an entitled reader, if you want. But actually, even if my contribution wasn't huge, I've been part of this fancomic's team for around 15 years now, doing comment mod work and translating pages to Hungarian day after day, week after week. I've tried to remain constructive when Pan was killed, I've tried to voice my concerns in a civil manner when U16 Bra was let off the hook. But this... this is worse than those combined, and it breaks my heart. :( This feels like all my efforts were a waste of time, because Salagir not only made Goku look like an idiot, but deemed it necessary to end the tournament, the main theme of the ENTIRE story, with a random, anticlimactic plot device - because that's what I'k'l's power is. We have no idea how it works, how it could possibly be countered, we have no idea why cyborgs are unaffected by it... it's just conveniently there. Szomorúan tudatom veletek, hogy a közeljövőben kilépek a DBM fordítói csapatából. Eddig is voltak fenntartásaim a történettel kapcsolatban, amiket nem is rejtettem véka alá, de úgy érzem a mostani események túlmentek egy bizonyos határon, melyet követően kb. minden motivációm elszállt az oldalak fordítását illetően. Úgy is mondhatnám, hogy a dolog olyan szinten elszomorít és felháborít, melynek más módon nem tudok érdemben hangot adni, mint hogy nagyjából 15 év munka után felállok a jelenlegi pozíciómból.

A fordítások nem maradnak abba azonnal, mivel nem akarom a beszerkesztőnket, Homola Gábort lehetetlen helyzetbe hozni - ő ugyanis továbbra is szeretne a magyar verzió munkálataiban részt venni. Viszont ezt az állapotot csak rendkívül korlátozott ideig vagyok hajlandó fenntartani, melyet követően valaki másnak kéne átvennie tőlem a fordítási feladatokat. Ha bárki vállalkozna erre, kérem jelezze.

Köszönöm szépen, hogy eddig olvastátok a magyar DBM-et, és bármilyen észrevétellel vagy kritikával illettétek a munkámat! Úgy gondolom, hogy egy kicsi, de kifejezetten normális olvasó-csapat alakult ki itt az évek során. :)

Not necessarily. If Gast is defeated here, Cell would most definitely become a threat to the universe by virtue of his immense power alone. To be fair, the Piccolo who offered him to "bully the weak" as a pastime was also getting "corrupted" by his inner goodness, so how literally that bullying can be taken is up to debate. Of course it's also debatable whether Bardock took that into account when responding to his offer.

Err... how? Considering Goku was impervious to bullets in the very first chapter of DB, I'k'l breaking Vegetto like this would require incredible strength from him regardless of whether his opponent is frozen in time or not.

Bojack népe jóval gyengébb volt ennél a társaságnál. Még egy korábbi special-ban láttuk, hogy ők valami bűnözőkön végzett, titkos kísérlet részeként tettek szert erre az erőre.

Bojack bandájában van egy rakás karakter, akikről gyakorlatilag semmit nem tudtunk meg a filmben, amiben szerepeltek. Szóval van itt mivel machinálni Salagir-éknak :), gondolom ez is szerepet játszik a dologban.
Egyébként meg legalább itt a rajzok kifejezetten szépnek ígérkeznek.

Ha a "komponensei" képesek volnának olyan erő birtokába jutni, ami megközelíti az övét, akkor mi is Vegitó létezésének az értelme? Volt elég dráma U16-ban abból, hogy Goku és Vegita, mint önálló személyek megszűntek létezni. Ha most kiderül, hogy valójában semmi szükség nem lett volna erre... Nem hiszem, hogy Vegitót ettől a gondolattól földöntúli boldogság járná át.

The art of this fight was absolutely incredible. It keeps getting better and Asura really gave it everything he had here. Full stop.
The story of the battle... felt like it was missing at times, and instead we simply saw two combatants pummeling each other (even if the pummeling was beautifully drawn). Goku beating Vegeta's energy beam with a more "concentrated" Kamehameha was the definite highlight of the battle for me, since it had a tangible plot to it, it was clear what Goku was going for and how he got the upper hand momentarily. I wish we could have seen more like that.

Kicsit olyan volt ez a harc, mint maga a DBM. Állati szép rajzok (komolyan, Asura láthatóan csak egyre jobb lesz), érdekes történet, de nagyon vegyes minőségben elmesélve. Az totálisan átjött, hogy a két fél mennyire élvezte a harcot, milyen közel álltak egymáshoz erőben, és hogy milyen kevesen múlt csak a győzelem... de ez ennyi oldalon át egy kicsit kevés.
Hol vannak a technikák, a taktikák? Vegita és Goku biztos, hogy másként áll a harchoz még akkor is, ha ugyanolyan erősek. A legjobban nekem pont az a rész tetszett a fejezet elején, amikor Goku a Kamehameha "fókuszálásával" kerekedett felül Vegita támadásán - annak volt története, világos volt, hogy mi volt az ötlet, amivel előnyre tett szert a küzdelemben. A harc legnagyobb részében azonban sajnos csak szimplán ütlegelték egymást, és még azt sem igazán lehetett látni, hogy éppen ki áll jobban. Kár.

So I went back and reread the Broly vs. Vegetto fight - one that I assume was meant to portray a battle of comparable power level.
Visually, this fight is simply on another level. Gogeta Jr. could draw some very nice battle scenes, make no mistake, but Asura's level of detail combined with Arcady Picardi's layouts come together beautifully in a way that makes it feel unfair to even compare the two.
On the other hand though, I still found the Broly vs. Vegetto fight to be more entertaining, despite Broly's invincibility making him something of a boring antagonist. Aside from the fact that the fight felt more DB-like (which I commented on in a previous page in the main comic), it had a clear story, even if it was not terribly complicated: SSJ Vegetto first gets the upper hand, then Broly surpasses him, then they fight evenly with Vegetto in SSJ2 for a while, then he goes SSJ3 to achieve victory. It was clear what happened and why. Here though, I am left wondering: so why did Goku win exactly? When did he get the upper hand? What was the pivotal moment in their fight? As amazing as it all looks, I can't tell, and I think that's a shame.

This fight was beautifully drawn and choreographed, but at the same time it reminded me how those long staredowns and mid-fight dialog that we sometimes make fun of in DB are an integral part of the manga and the show. This battle did not feel the same without them. 1 Replie(s)

U1 Toriyama is reading my mind. When I saw the layout for round 1 of the tournament, I was pretty sure Goku and Vegeta would meet in the semifinals - but I was also fairly certain that, just like previously, their fight would be interrupted by something. It's really exciting that this doesn't seem to be the case.

All hail DBM's new overlord, Buu!

This was an occasionally interesting special with great art, but I do wish it had a bit more meat to it, some sort of plot to follow aside from all these cameos and interactions. It felt somewhat directionless, to be honest. Still, the art really was nice.

Valami rémlik arról, hogy a feltámasztásnál (a földi gömböknél legalábbis) van valami időlimit a halál időpontjától számolva, de nem mondanám 100%-ig biztosra. Ha van, akkor jó eséllyel már kicsúsztak belőle.

Érdekes, mert engem pl. az U13 további háttértörténete meglehetősen hidegen hagy. (Nincs már kb. egy szimpatikus karakter sem ott, legalábbis az élők között.) Én szívesebben olvasnék a 3-as univerzumról például. A Cell Jr.-ok és Buu egy "Go fish" nevű játékot játszanak nem hagyományos kártyákkal. Fura módon a szabályok semelyik magyar fordítása nem fordította le a nevét (amit ráadásul játék közben is mondani kell, ha nincs nálad az a lap, amit kérnek), így maradt az angol eredeti.

Hát, végül is Vegitó tényleg egy csapásra elpusztított... egy darabot Buu-ból. Már csak 1289321 darab van vissza. :P

Egyelőre nem világos, hogy meddig tart ez a special fejezet.

I get it that they don't want Buu to rule all the universes, but what do they believe they can achieve with confronting him directly like this?

The only way to stop Buu is by completely destroying him - he already knows how the vargas' devices work, so he can just come back if you send him back to his world. The only people who seem to have a chance to do that are Gast, Vegetto and maybe U16 Bra. Meanwhile, Buu can use basically anyone else as a hostage. Not the best situation to face him head on.

Wouldn't it make more sense to go along with Buu's wishes for now, and come up with some kind of plan? Not very DB-ish, I'll admit, but... 1 Replie(s)

The Grand Kaio Shin seems to be contradicting himself a bit here. Does he see Buu as a benevolent being that should not be feared, or an omnipotent one that they cannot rebel against?

I doubt Buu's plan is to destroy the multiverse, or anything, really. He simply wants to have fun, to make things interesting. Destruction might be fun in the short term, but it squanders all the long-term potential.

I think the Grand Kaio Shin was affected to such an extent by Buu's philosophy because, like Buu's, his own way of dealing with problems takes things to an extreme. Buu says let the chips fall where they may, while the Kaio Shins were so into governing every aspect of their universe that they were even eradicating potential threats.
It's hard to argue against stopping an evil tyrant like Cold, but killing an infant Broly because of what he may become later? Not as clear-cut, that's for sure.
So, instead of seeing the flaws in his approach, the Grand Kaio Shin simply fell from one extreme to another, as it so often happens, unfortunately.

A Déli Kaioshin védelmére legyen mondva, hogy ez már a sokadik olyan dolog a Nagy Kaioshin-nel kapcsolatban, amit egyszerűen nem tud mire vélni. Régebben otthon a Nagy Kaioshin is pont olyan óvatos volt, mint ő, most meg látszólag érthetetlen dolgokat művel.

Nekem a sztori tetszik. Már a főszálnál is látszott, hogy ezek a lányok nem a torna kedvéért voltak ott, így kifejezetten jó ötletnek tartom, hogy egy special fejezetben derüljön ki, pontosan mi történt, miután Bojack-ék leléptek.
A rajz... az más kérdés. Bevallom nekem se jön be. Egyszerre tűnik karikatúra-szerűnek és mégis furán realisztikusnak, és ez a kombináció a Dragonball karaktereknél egészen bizarr eredményt szül. Más kérdés, hogy amíg a sztori nem hülyeség, addig a magam részéről igyekszem túllendülni rajta.

Valamiért a hír illusztrálásaként sikerült az egyik leggyengébb panelt beletenni - az egyetlen komolyabb probléma, amit ki tudnék emelni az az, hogy Vegitának valamiért olyan elnyújtott feje van. Szerintem Gokut meglepte Uub technikája, és ezért bekapott több nagy ütést. Ne felejtsük el, hogy őt nem elsősorban a győzelem vezérli, hanem élvezni akarja a harcot. Persze, hogy nem ment rögtön neki Uub-nak mindent beleadva.

Ha egyszer eljutunk az elődöntőig (amiben őszintén szólva kételkedem, a Goku vs. Vegita párharc valamiért sosem akar összejönni a tornákon XD), akkor szerintem láthatunk pár új húzást Gokutól.

Valamivel talán nagyobb, mint kéne, de maga az öv is torzítja az ember benyomását az arányokról: a Goku-féle gi öve igencsak fent van, nagyjából köldökmagasságban (vagy még feljebb).

If Broly only destroyed one galaxy, I would have figured he still would've had a lot of galaxies left to destroy by the time the vargas arrived. The universe really is vast.
Also, does this mean the afterlife and the connected other planes of existence are still there in U20? I thought that universe was completely eradicated by Broly, but unless he learns instant transmission he simply has no way to get there.

Salagir tipikusan jóval több káromkodást tesz az angol verzióba, mint a franciába. Ez egyébként szerintem általános, sokkal könnyebben káromkodik valaki idegen nyelven, mert kevésbé érzi a szavak súlyát. :)

A rajzoló szerintem nagyon tehetséges, de valakinek át kellett volna néznie az oldalakat megjelenés előtt. Egy-két hely van, mint Goten arca pár oldallal ezelőtt, vagy Videl ennek az oldalnak az alján, ami a külső szemlélőnek rögtön feltűnik és könnyen javítható lenne.

A magyarázattal nincs semmi probléma, de légy szíves legközelebb szerkeszd a hozzászólásodat, ne pedig kettőt írj egymás után, mert a szabályokat értelmében ezeket törölnöm kéne.

Konkrétan ahogy ez kinéz, Buu csak azért nem vette át az uralmat a torna felett (megint), mert nem jutott eszébe vagy nem volt kedve hozzá. Gast meglepte legutóbb, de legközelebb szerintem már nem hagyná magát bezárni, mindenki mást pedig el tud intézni szó szerint egyetlen csettintéssel. O_o

I guess Vegetto is still upset about recent events. Otherwise, I'd think the fact that Buu and Gast are incredibly strong should actually be good news to him, considering how little he had in the way of a challenge ever since he came into being. After all, his philosophy, as evidenced by the previous special chapter, is "you can beat everything with brute strength, you just need to be a hundred times stronger than your magic/technology/whatever-wielding opponent". Well, Vegetto, after all these years I guess you finally have a reason to train! :)

(Then again, how do you beat someone who can rewrite reality with a snap of his fingers? Seize his hand or something? XD)
