Hi everyone. Crimson Bardock here. I made this account because my old one, Animeality, has been inactive for so long I would have deleted it myself. I also used to go by the name "L" prior to that - I was in my "Death Note is the greatest story ever" phase. I used to be a frequent reader, commenter, and lurker here years back. Started reading DBM when I was in high school and that was just back when it was doing the Vegito vs Broly fight. This comic has had its highs and lows, and even outlived the manga's creator, Akira Toriyama, and the Abridged series by Team Four Star. Crazy, isn't it?
I feel weirdly connected to this comment section even if it's changed considerably since I was a "temp" moderator. I never really did my job or logged in frequently. A lot of the improvements here are amazing.
As I get older the world gets lonelier and lonelier, and I realize a lot of the time I spent was with people behind computers whose faces I never saw. I wanted to give a shout out to YOUR, Davidstarlingm, Roketto, Skarfacedbandit, and npberryhill if they are still around. YOUR and Skar with your "DBM Abridged" parodies. Roketto with your Freeza obsession and that heroic Freeza AU Savior of Demons. Davidstarlingm and npberryhill with your Bringer of Death AU where Vegeta unlocked Super Saiyan first. We didn't talk or collaborate, but you were the people I spent a great deal of time reading from and observing your contributions to the fandom. I hope you all are well, drama notwithstanding.
When I look back at the first 200-300 pages of comments or however long it was until the Broly fight - I realize things weren't great. There was a lot of toxicity, vulgarity, and off-topic discussion. People WRITING IN ALL CAPS THAT THIS STORY IS GARBAGE AND THE AUTHORS SHOULD _ THEMSELVES. A lot of really weird sexual assault discussion. A lot of posturing and trolling.
Still.
It wasn't all bad, I swear. An English forum got made and a lot of discussion got funneled over there.
DBM was there for me at a time in my life I didn't know it was okay to still like Dragonball. That it wasn't just kid's stuff I was supposed to grow out of. This community of readers in the English section delivered a lot of laughs and entertainment over the years. I wish most of you well. I like to pretend all of us here in the comments are the people occasionally seen watching the tournament.
It has been a LONG time coming to this. I'm sure many, like me, never thought the comic would get here. Bardock's flash-forwards, the Majin Rebellion, wondering who XXI was. I went from checking daily to weekly to half a month back to weekly. Now I motly peruse the TV Tropes thread for updates. I remember speculating over and over who XXI was and what he would do, wondering what Gast could really do, how Gohan and Cell's rematch was going to go. This comic gave me Super Saiyan 3 Vegito, Bra fighting everybody; Goku vs Uub; Buu fighting everybody; an older Gotenks.
In some ways, it was Dragonball Super before Dragonball Super. With the exception of Broly, it surpasses Super even. I can't speak for Akira Toriyama, but this 'was' the only continuation of Dragonball for a long time, and for all its faults I am very much still in awe of it. It is a time capsule to the pre-Dragonall Super era in many ways. Salagir, Asura, Gogeta Jr, Faye, and anybody else on the team - I salute all of you.
I just... needed to say all that. No grand insight or anything. I'll be reading to see how this ends. The subtitle "final match of the tournament" really made me nostalgic.
