Yeah this was incredibly fun to translate. Salagir the comic genius! Well done.
Fanfic dbm, chapter 164
Next chapter is nearly ready to post. I think it's really helpful regarding a lot of the questions and comments brought up by you guys. Should be up as soon as the proofreading is finished.
Fanfic dbm, chapter 161
@Northeal
Interesting points, and we certainly appreciate your post. I think I follow most of what you're saying, but I will say regarding your first point that I think Buu is definitely mocking... that's what he does. Nothing is serious to him, so making a meta-reference joke about her talk-no-jutsu is completely in character for Buu. He breaks the fourth wall all the time, so it shouldn't be immersion breaking here. But, funny enough, I do think that even though he's somewhat mocking Bra here, he definitely is a little impressed with her gumption.
Regarding Vegetto's treatment of Son Bra, I think the novel will delve more specifically into some of their past experiences soon. Perhaps that will help clarify. I personally find their dynamic to be odd, also, and I get the gaslighting comment. I am hopeful this is all in service to the greater story and will make sense when everything is fully known. 2 Replie(s)

I also really appreciate the extra context for Bra given here. The "passive" comment in the novel didn't make near as much sense, but they had limitations that the novel doesn't.

So, regarding Vegeta referring to Kakarot as Goku here. If you read the DBM Novelization, it stated in one of the earliest chapters that U18 Vegeta eventually began to call him Goku. As to why, the reason given was something along the lines of moving on from his Saiyan traditions and accepting his new life on Earth fully. Personally, I would still rather he call him Kakarot too. But, this was addressed years and years and years ago so this page isn't in error.

Hey, glad to see such an impassioned response to the chapter. Of course I didn't write any of it, I just worked hard on the translation, but still let me offer some thoughts to your points.
>Talk about ungrateful
Oh gosh yeah, Bra is entitled, ungrateful, impatient, overconfident, self-righteous, all of that. When I translated the scene of her complaining about how long Vegetto took to save her, I was trying to emphasize how immature and self-obsessed she is.
>And Gohan wonders why she got majinazed
U16 Gohan doesn't wonder, he understands right away and the pieces add up to him. U18 Gohan wonders since he doesn't know how she was raised. My question would be, if it was that bad why did U16 Gohan never step in and tell his father he was overstepping? Was Gohan afraid of Vegetto too?
>And Salagir wonders why she's so hated
I think he deliberately wants her to be this hated, no doubt. Making you hate her means he has succeeded. Hopefully his plans for her in the end will pay that off.
>how about holding Bra accountable to her action & not put ALL the blame on Vegetto?
Well one thing I loved here is how we got to see in detail the part that Babidi played. His manipulation was masterful.
>And (Piccolo) saying Vegetto put pressure on his daughter more than he did to Gohan
That seems to be the crux of your argument. I don't know any of those details either, but I'd say the big difference is that Piccolo came around on Gohan to the point of loving him. Vegetto's threat to kill Bra if she loses control (not sure exact wording) is still out there. Vegetto clearly had a turn for the worse somewhere, and Bra is trapped in this.
I'm just the translator but I put in a ton of work to make this great too. I hope I can help with any other questions you have. 1 Replie(s)

Hey, everyone. Yes, this was not what was expected and it definitely isn't Christmas time. Thing is, there is no "real" chapter 151. This is it, so skipping it wasn't really an option. The good news is, I've gotten the go ahead from Salagir to keep adapting the English versions of the Main Novel. The French is currently a couple chapters ahead, but I will get those translations out for you soon and hopefully keep pace with the releases! Thanks for reading, as always.

Hey, everyone. Someone brought the current immortality inconsistency to my attention. At the time I translated that chapter (127 I think), I didn't know Kakarotto was immortal myself. I'll definitely say, the Novel does its best to be "technically accurate" sometimes, making you think one thing but actually the other being true. Sort of an Obi Wan telling Luke Vader killed his father type thing. But those technicalities occasionally get broken when you cross a language barrier.
Anyway, I've gone back and tweaked the verbiage of Chapter 127 to make it more consistent. I do apologize for the error and take full responsibility. Other instances of this happen in the novel all the time, such as when writing for Cell before it's revealed that he isn't totally under the control of Babidi. I did know, in that case, and had to be very careful with wordings. Again, sorry. If there are other places in the novel that need to be fixed I'll be glad to put in the time, just let me know where! Thanks, guys. 1 Replie(s)
