I don't get why he made such a dumb comment. Even Goku would understand that they aren't dragons' balls... She says there "still" isn't an update, meaning it was discussed before. There's even a visual aid.

Discussed with who? This is his first time attending these meetings or hearing about dragon balls. It's a bit like telling someone you need seven horse armpits. Of course that person is going to be confused, even if you show them a visual aid when you say it, because it's such a weird thing to say. Especially when you put it in a context like "we need to kill the devil and get seven horse armpits."

It's also just funny that he said it. It's a joke.

They need to learn that using Carbonite is ok if they can instantly destroy it once the target is destroyed. It's not that difficult and they can just ultra waver it away.

Except you've just created a subjective situation that requires a judgement call. They don't even know for certain that they will survive the length of time that turning this assumedly massive target to carbonite would require, and they haven't even actually seen it. They could aim for center mass and hope, but there's a good chance this thing can fire a second shot and just pierce the shield immediately.

First off, how did XXI even defeat this guy? It literally said he would easily be able to crush XXI and was like comparing him to a Kai as you would a God to a bug, yet the next page just showed he was defeated? Also, why not use this warrior or any of the others he had during the tournament? I get he's careful but you literally have a god on summon.

This was explained by the contents of the chapter he appeared in.

XXI first captured the Kaioshin. The Kaioshin helped him capture the Demon King. Together, the Kaioshin and the Demon King were barely able to defeat Janemba. All three working together with XXI's magical support proved enough to win — or to tame him. As XXI said, "any beast can be tamed."

Regarding why he didn't use him in the tournament... why would he? He never needed to. The closest he came to needing something like that was against Gast, and the reason he didn't use it against Gast was because he wanted to devour him. Janemba alone was enough to weaken Gast for the final bit of their fight.

Does XXI's smoke make them completely loyal to him? Why would Ginyu care about being his best soldier when he was ruling a universe as Cold?

I believe it's a far shot of the area with Gohan and the Namekian being the specs, then it shows them up close while they search for survivors.

Exactly

The speck in question is another safety bubble. There are two distinctly separate dots inside of it. It's another group of survivors scanning another direction.

Unrelated, I'd love it if this is Ginyu calling for help while in a separate body or something.

Sams was saying:
Then again, when it comes to Vegetto, I'm afraid we're way past the character assassination point, sadly

It's quite jarring to re-read early DBM and see him and Bra acting really normal with Vegetto guiding her and Bra being caring and proud of him. Honestly, early Bra & early Vegetto had a very good dynamic, which makes it really weird this turn for the worse with Vegetto being retconned into being abusive and threatening to her.

I mean, let's not forget the context of these situations. His earliest display of "abusive" behavior is after she killed her brother and blew up a solar system. If not for the dragonballs that would have been a literal genocide. The second time he acts in an abusive way, she had just gone on a rampage that almost resulted in ALL of them dying for good. If she had succeeded the dragonballs would not have been able to fix it. They would have all been up a creek without a paddle, barring Buu intervention (that they didn't know was possible at the time).

Like, yeah, Vegetto is temperamental and impetuous. He's Goku and Vegeta. But he came back to see the exact thing he was worried about did in fact happen even though Bra theoretically could have shaken off Babidi's control. She of course is imperfect and couldn't, but why would he know that?

Vegetto is NOT a great dad or a great person, and I think Goku and Vegeta on their own are better parents, and Bra is probably my favorite character in the comic other than Uub, but let's not pretend that daddy's little princess would have survived a trial in a courtroom. The others are willing to step up to accomodate her, and I think that speaks volumes of their character. What it says of Vegetto's is that he has lost the spirit of community that our mainline universe never loses. Because he's "the guy" he thinks he's the one handling everything, when in reality the power of friendship and cooperation can overcome even his power in the end. At least, that's what I think we'll see.

Silly Sei, that's not how you write the Roman Number 4.

Someone else pointed it out, but this was at one point how you wrote "4." Additionally, it has a place in modern clockmaking as the "clockmaker's four" or "watchmaker's four" depending on where you're from. The layout of "IIII" is easier to cast than "IV" and provides more symmetry when designing a clockface or, in more common cases to the Roman, a sundial. It was also slightly cheaper to produce dials with "IIII" and more useful to the populous, who could then count the bars instead of having to recognize the actual symbol "IV."

When the Bojack Gang has more synergy than the heroes do.
Jokes aside, this was honestly a dumb move from Seggui. If Bojack can hear you racing towards him, and he's not doing anything, why would you still try to attack him?

The implication is usually that the person believes their opponent is getting speed blitzed. Seggui probably thought Bojack, who was always sort of slovenly, isn't fast enough to react. Of course, we the reader know Bojack is now tens of times stronger than he already was, but Seggui has no idea whether or not Bojack is actually all that much stronger until he gets pieced up. He was strong enough to beat Bojack's lackeys and fight Bido, but Bido and the gang are a lot weaker and he doesn't know by how much.

Bido, go put some clothes on. Stop showing off. Haha. I'm pretty sure Gokua had those gemstone earrings in the Bojack movie, too. But they're missing here. Maybe he'll get some later.

Stronger than Polar? And therefore also Cold, since they’re about the same age. Okay, that’s believable. But what about Snower? He’s much older, and as a reminder, in DBM, a Frost Demon’s power increases continuously with age. I wouldn’t automatically assume that Bido would be able to beat Snower in a 1v1 fight in his final form just yet.

Snower wasn't known for his strength to begin with, so for his case they might genuinely be stronger than him already. Frost demons get stronger with age, but they also have a base strength and they can also train to some degree to make better use of that strength.

Nevertheless, if Bojack comes out as strong as he was against Gohan then it makes sense to me that he would be able to get rid of a much younger Cold. If his crew are each DBM Frieza level and he's DBM Cold level then this fits well enough! He was already at least 5x stronger than Bido before Bido unlocked his augmentation, since Bojack > Segui (780k) and Segui > Bido (sub-200k). 1 Replie(s)

I will say the Frozen Goku gag was more problematic than it was funny. Now, any time they want to point out how dangerous the "outside world" is, it's always going to contend with "but Goku literally fell head first into the ground"

Yes, I get it was a gag. The problem is the fact that it's a new concept that we are learning here.

What? How is this a new concept?

There's a massive difference between falling at a regular falling speed and being punched at mach 70000 through terrain by a Super Saiyan 3. We've seen multiple times that characters of a decent power can just shatter others.

SuperDuper Goku was saying:
Damn a whole kilometer? I feel Gohan's sign is a bit overly cautious if they can go that far into the frozen and be fine. I feel a meter would have been more perilous...

The implication on the page is that even if you have a Namekian with you, and are in a bubble, you cannot be sensed through the freeze. Think of the freeze as fog and Namekians as cars that enable travel. You can see incoming cars if they're close enough, but the further away they are the less likely you are to see them or know they're there. After half a mile, even other active ki signatures cannot be detected.

By contrast, the camp is meant to be a safe zone. The warning signs are to ensure the spectators don't wander off into that fog. They don't have Namekians with them and would not be detectable if they got lost. They have no headlights to turn on. 1 Replie(s)

The chapter was definitely interesting at the beginning. But the story is one of the weakest in DBM. So, XXI came out of nowhere. Terrorized the universe. A holy Kaioshin knight got powered up by the elder Kai. She died against XXI. XXI haunts the elder Kai. Out of nowhere unknown/new Kaioshins appear and beat XXI. Very disappointing and weak storytelling. Nothing against the art and poem!

The Kaioshin in DBM represent wings of the galaxy (North, South, East, West) overseen by a central leader, so this is unsurprising. We see three Kaioshin here, one is dead, and one is sealed... so these three didn't come from nowhere, they're doing their jobs.

I would imagine that we'll learn XXI's origin in a later chapter. 1 Replie(s)

Paradise Lost was saying: Considering in every universe but in universe 5 the Kaioshins win, I assume they were more than ready to take on XXI in traditional combat. How the Kaioshin loses to XXI in Universe 5 is yet to be seen.
That just raises questions. Why would a Kaioshin succeed when even Gast failed? There is no way that even the strongest Kaioshin could make Gast break a sweat, let alone beat him. There must be some trick that the Kaioshins pull that allows them to beat XXI, some magic or something that even Gast can't do. This chapter has just started, so I don't expect it to be explained immediately, but probably before the chapter ends.

Because the fight we're seeing now is so long ago that the Grand Supreme Kai is thin and youthful. When we see him canonically, five million years ago, he's already round and middle aged, assuming this is the same Grand Supreme Kai. 2 Replie(s)

Super Gojita 3 was saying: I wonder if its just a time machine? and something is in the time machine?

I just thought of something. Why didn't uub grant himself a zenkai boost ability? Zenkai are organic in nature. He has magic. I'm certain that would have cut his time like in almost half. Instead he grew at the speed of a human. Which took him almost 2 years.

Because he's not a Buu level magician. Buu has spent the equivalent of decades doing magical research because in the novels he split off parts of himself to do it. So Uub is doing it at a normal human speed. He can heal and turn things to candy, but he's not a magical wish granting Uub yet!

Before I say this, I want to point out that there IS still a small chance Cell returns, but...

Gast took his powers away. I would assume he's of normal robot durability without the power to reinforce himself. He almost definitely got eviscerated and would have with or without Frieza's durability because the power gap was absolutely massive. An ant has an impressive skeleton, but a human boot will still absolutely crush it.

uh... how exactly? It's a plot point in DBZ that Freeza's cells give him the ability to survive in outer space... which he doesn't have here. Either Gero's programming is faulty, or this is an oversight.

Characters in DBM can survive in space by putting up a shield of energy around themselves. Vegito, Bra, and Gohan do it at one point, but have to hold their breath. Broly and Vegeta both do it in the U4 special. Broly does this to travel from planet to planet, implying you don't really need the real life amount of air to do so.

Well, Piccolo said the thing.

I'm not a fan though of how Gohan's reasoning is "he knows what will happen if he tried", instead of "Vegeta's not that kind of person anymore"

This is just how he chose to explain it to Bra. Bra is very much a "might makes right" person. If he tried to appeal to her sense of morality about someone she's never actually interacted with, would it work?

Gohan has a deeper thought on Vegeta's morality in the novelization's newest chapter. In it, he opines that Vegeta is a trusted friend and comrade who simply has a habit of getting hotheaded. He knows for sure that Vegeta would never dare hurt Videl or Pan because Vegeta actually likes Pan and (by extension) Videl. 1 Replie(s)

To those who think Vegeta has no chance against Bra, I'd like to point out that Vegeta WAS weaker than Gohan... as in, going into the tournament and before utilizing that new form, he was definitively weaker. Now that he's capable of going "beyond" SSJ3 I would not be so quick to dismiss his chances against SSJ2 Bra. While I doubt he'd win, I also doubt it would be a clean wash since we don't really know the limits of their new form's power.

Gohan was the gold standard of power going into the tournament. Bra became stronger than that standard by mastering SSJ2. Vegeta and Goku also seem to have found their own answers for ascending beyond that standard.

I think that Maqua (the magic water cube that trapped Vegetto during the U16 special) being suspiciously show on both Universe 0 and Universe 16 is the result of an evil Varga travelling the multiverse to accomplish their goals.

Maqua meet Vegetto during an U16 special. However despite Universe 0 being supposedly an universe (that probably did not have any Jaykals native to it) without any sapient lifeforms before the Vargas found it, page 2565 shows that Maqua is somehow currently on Universe 0, which means that either: A) An evil Varga created both U0 Maqua and U16 Maqua. B) An evil Varga used a Varga spaceship to send Maqua to Universe 16. C) Maqua is native to Universe 1 and can travel to other universes on it is own.

Videl should have shattered, right?

If I remember right, the shattering effect is mostly visual during the duration of the technique. When it expires, the wounds take normal form. The French version of the page seems to say that a large spike ran her through, which is mirrored here, so the wound is not her being shattered as much as it is her being gored.

King Kindred was saying:
I can't believe they fridged or in this case spiked Videl.

Also, why does Gohan talk so weird? Is it due to translation?

A little. He's a doting father and the comic tends to translate, not localize, dialogue. From an American perspective he would probably be calling her "honey," "sweetie," and "darling" instead of "my darling" and etc. "Ma chérie" is usually "my dear" and informalized from there.

Andy was saying:
Shouldn't Gohan be more emotional when his wife just died?

thebritwriter was saying:
Looking back videl shouldn’t had come along, this version did very little in contrast to everyone else.

Did the comic have an aim to try and have her rekindle some of her fighting days? Maybe but I think because of the large cast and juggling the plot that inevitably someone will get sidelined. She was sidelined even before this with her last appearance smiling beside pan with a meal ready.

I’m surprised Trunks and Goten hadn’t got sidelined (well trunks in the least, Goten did a few things since)

I don't personally think Videl doing much in the comic affects whether or not she could or would come along. She likes martial arts and spending time with her family. It makes sense that she's here and that she did not survive this. Some characters don't need to serve a grand purpose in the narrative and exist to worldbuild. Videl is important to the narrative because she's important to Gohan and Pan, and knowing Videl's character informs Pan's character. She's a supporting cast member in that sense but not essential to current events on screen. 1 Replie(s)

To others mentioning that Uub isn't getting stronger or that his body needs rest, I'd like to point out that he's regularly healing himself. We don't really know how the healing spell works. It could be a simple heal — removing his wounds — but he doesn't look wounded here. He loses the sweat and physical exhaustion after casting it, though... so it's very likely that the spell is what primarily keeps him from needing an eight hour night of sleep. The hour long rest is almost definitely for meditation and reflection.

Regarding Gast's power, a few things to note:

First, Final Form Cold was probably not as strong as Ginyu Cold was. Ginyu was a trained fighter who managed to draw out a lot of Cold's strength and even went so far as to invent new forms.

Second, Gast is presumably sub-SSJ2 in this special. I would imagine he ramped up in power at roughly the same pace as Goku did. It would not surprise me if his "Buu Saga" also had a Majin Vegeta, so I would assume he ramps up beyond SSJ2 in his own Buu Saga.

Finally, this is just the first page of the fight. Gast isn't strong because he's physically powerful, he's strong because he's physically powerful AND he can use a lot of magic AND he can regenerate. He's now fighting an opponent with two of those three strengths, and if we know anything about Dragonball it is that fighting strong opponents helps you grow stronger. At least, when it doesn't kill you.

Why would they safeguard the dragon in this case? They believe him to be a good guy... and even if they didn't, XXI can't speak to the dragon while time is frozen. That's why he set up this distraction in the first place. Because he needs a moment to speak to the dragon to make his wish. Yeah, sure, you could argue that he shouldn't hit Old Kai... but we have no idea how the ritual works other than Old Kai needing concentration. This isn't a canon story... but it was hinted at about four or five times in the setup to these pages. Old Kai mentions a mental block and it's reinforced.

Whatever was saying:
Hell, what happens when somebody comes seeking revenge for what they've done? Guess he'll just have to lay down and die. After all, if you can't muster the power to defend yourself, how would you muster the strength to fly away or run either?

He does have to lay down and die. That's his penance. You don't get to just go "oh, I'm a good guy now" and invalidate the hundreds, thousands, or millions you've killed. Vegeta still went to hell after he became a family man. Old Kai doesn't want Raditz to get away with being an evil dink, but he does want to make sure Vegeta doesn't get away with it either. The best way to do that is have Raditz kill Vegeta... after he does so, he can't turn his power on anyone else, either.

Honestly, I'm a little confused as to why people are surprised by any of this. Old Kai wasn't doing this out of the goodness of his heart. He wanted to turn Raditz against evil-doers without risking harm to himself or others who don't deserve it. This is like the perfect way to do that. Lying to a literally genocidal maniac doesn't make you evil, nor does breaking the rules, and neither does punishing a rulebreaker. I don't feel like anyone is out of bounds here considering even U9 is seemingly okay with how this went. 1 Replie(s)

how come this gohan, who's ssj, or vegeta, whos' also a ssj, didn't get picked up by the vargas?
why didn't gast leave a dragon making namek alive and didn't absorb?
how does he get this type of strength? there aren't even that many nameks, and nail, who was probably the strongest, wasn't even that strong.

Yes, he died of the heart disease. It's mentioned in the previous chapter.

Yes, he mostly journeys around and solves problems while looking for a solution to his problem. He came to Earth for a vacation.

Gohan has historically never liked fighting. Even the two Gohan versions who came to the tournament only came as spectators. I would assume Vegeta is dead, but it hasn't been covered yet.

Not all Namekians know how to make a dragon and the only way to ensure their safety was to merge together into one form. This included the magicians, which is why Gast also has a firm mastery of magic.

Piccolo absorbing Kami took him from being below a Super Saiyan to being equal to Android 17. Piccolo absorbing Nail made him strong enough to fight Third Form Frieza. He more than doubled in power from each absorption. The power is not additive, so each Namek does not just add their power together. Absorbing all of the warriors and spellcasters on the planet made him many, many, many times stronger than a normal Namekian would have been. Don't forget that Nail WAS actually very strong — he was on par with the Ginyu Force, who were the strongest of Frieza's army at the time. It's like saying a musket isn't all that strong. True in 2025, but when they were important they were literally strong enough to change the history of the world and they're still strong enough to be dangerous to a random human bystander.

That still makes no sense in English... why would you want to be a fat idiot?

The French version doesn’t even use the verb “to be”. It’s probably a typo from the translator.

They probably pasted the direct translation and forgot to adjust the wording; if I'm understanding it properly they mean to say:
"You're underestimating us a little, but okay! We'll take the big fat one!"

Funnily enough they could have probably still just said "we'll take the gross lard!"

How was Gohan handling three Androids by himself in base on the last page? Unless he was made an Android himself, that is

Others already commented on the "mass produced" and "absorption type" angle, but I think it's worth noting that Krillin was able to kill one of them in the past. We saw that with a big enough power gap that even the Kienzan won't work, so we can pretty safely assume that these Androids aren't as strong as say 17 or 18. If we wager they're about on par with 19, who Goku was thrashing pretty comfortably, then I'd accept an entry level Super Saiyan could wreck these guys.

Considering what they did to Gast when he arrived, it's pretty reasonable to assume that "Chicken" probably didn't want to start a fight on his own against Gero's forces, especially since one good grapple pretty much ends the fight and he has no idea how many trump cards Gero might be hiding. 1 Replie(s)

Huh, if she can carry the Z-Sword at all under 10x gravity and without Kaioken, you'd think she wouldn't have been so worried about a Coldyu who's still holding back and in this form. Even under normal gravity, Gohan struggled to hold it in base, and though he may have gotten weaker in the 7 years of peace, he was nonetheless above Super Vegeta with just mastered Super Saiyan. Furthermore, while Kaioken levels are deliberately vague in DBM, she should have gotten ahead of 20x, so if final form Coldyu was only #16 level, why was she so terrified?

To be honest, I'm not sure comparing base power levels is a good idea here for two reasons. Even ignoring the fact that she's excited, not terrified:

1.) Base Gohan in Buu Saga is probably stronger than Base Vegeta in Cell Saga, yes, but that matters little. We have no idea how strong the Base Humans are without Kaioken, only that Kaioken doesn't make them strong enough to trump a Super Saiyan when they're evenly matched in base form. We know that Krillin is weaker than Hirudegarn, even in his maximum Kaioken, and that Videl's maximum power is capable of defeating a Cell Jr (if it's opened up). We do not know what any character's maximum Kaioken is, but they do announce when they go to their maximum power. We do know that Videl's second use of Kaioken in this fight puts her below a Kaioshin.

2.) Cold is at A16's level in his immediate final form, not his full power fourth form. We have no idea how strong his maximum power is, but Videl is pretty cognizant of the fact that she's screwed if he powers up as far as she knows Frost Demons can. We do not know if she is accounting for Cooler's 5th form or assuming he can only max out his fourth form. Cold in his fourth form is enough to overwhelm SSJ Bardock, who is probably also weaker than Videl at her maximum Kaioken considering that she was able to kill a Cell Jr with a lot of difficulty.

So we know a few things:

Gohan >> MAX COLD > Videl (MAX) >= Majin Cell Jr (Cell Games) > Super Trunks > Super Vegeta > SSJ Bardock > Third Form Cold.

We don't know where fourth form Cold slots in or where his enhanced forms put him, but her base form must be pretty powerful if a Kaioken of undetermined level puts her somewhere in the ballpark above SSJ1 but below SSJ2. She's definitely weaker than someone like Cell Games Gohan, but she would at MINIMUM, even if lowballing her, drive someone like Trunks to the brink. I would just guess that most people who have dealt with Cooler know that Frost Demons have more forms to contend with, and that the form Cold is showing here is at most 1% of his power.

If that killed Buuly, then it could have killed Broly. This is stupid.

Weird comment. The point wasn't that the attack could not have killed Broly. The point was that the attack needed to hit. Bruuly was able to "maintain control" long enough to guarantee the hit, meaning that Broly, a human with at least some survival instinct, would not move out of the way or otherwise find a way to overpower the attack.

Second, the attack is probably magical in nature. It purifies souls and seems like it could be pretty easily overwhelmed, destroyed, or blocked if the defender is ready. The raw power of the attack is, again, just not the point.

A lot of people think Gogeta landing a hit is showing off. Broly might be invulnerable, but he also has defensive techniques. We saw him use one a few pages ago. Just throwing out your strongest attack isn't a good way to win a battle against an opponent who knows to defend against it, and Gogeta's probably not strong enough to completely overwhelm Broly in one go like Vegito. He has to create an opening and then exploit that opening.

Similarly, I would assume if they defuse inside of Buu that they can't refuse inside of Buu, but...

According to Old Kai, the fight is already shattering the boundaries of reality. There's a good chance any attack strong enough to kill Broly fired by a BuuGeta would destroy reality too. Broly screaming and powering up was enough to crack the barrier and we've seen a few attacks deepen those cracks. Just blowing him up at this point isn't playing for a win, it's playing for a draw... and a draw is a loss, because Broly doesn't care if he exists or not and they do care if they exist. 1 Replie(s)

People confused as to why Bulma isn't silencing Trunks are missing a key fact of this scene:

MANY people are crying and screaming around them. One baby crying in the city doesn't mean much to Android 18. She's not going to hear Trunks crying and go "OH THAT'S THE BABY GOHAN IS AFTER, I HAVE TO KILL THAT KID FIRST." She has no idea the kid is important because the character in the narrative has no meta-knowledge. She's also watching the race... so she might pick out the situation, she might not. He definitely does.

Android 17 knows he's weaker than he should be, as this was brought up a handful of times. He also got absolutely put in his place in the tournament. I don't think he's entertaining ideas of grandeur, he's just stoked he gets to cheap shot a bunch of cocky Saiyans who constantly think themselves better than everyone. He is pretty immature and does not realize how easily the shoe could be on the other foot, which is a constant character trait for C17/C18. That's why it's so easy for Yamcha to bait him into attacking on their side: he's basically a teenage boy and not all that hard to manipulate.

Guess the Saiyan blood must have motivated them there. Of course they could pull a Jeice here and forfeit if such a scenario happened (which didn't).

Also, this is Frieza's best moment in DBM lawl.

Saiyans like fighting. Even if Vegeta kills them and they have to be brought back to life, they get to fight other people that they KNOW they dislike and want to punch, like Frieza. It's important to remember that in their universe the strongest threats that existed (and most importantly that they knew about) were Frieza's family and the associated armies, all of which they could pretty handily destroy. Raditz may somehow be the third or fourth strongest fighter in his universe assuming Cell and the Androids never came to be in any form. This should have been drawn out more. Even in the DBZ piccolo and Kami took their time before they fused. There was tension.

The chapter featuring the Androids showcases why this happens on Page 1374. Kami refuses Piccolo's merger because the world won't be destroyed: it will just be hurt, and there is no guarantee even of that. Here, Kami understands 100% that the world WILL be wiped clean of life if he doesn't comply. There's no reason for him to object to his only chance at saving it. As others have pointed out, he probably knows he can change Piccolo from the inside over time, and that Piccolo will try to rule the Earth instead of destroying it.

Meanwhile, the Saiyans will 100% destroy all life on Earth and then sell it, as they told him a few pages ago. Without Piccolo, there's no way for Kami to stop that.

Likewise, in DBZ, there is some deliberation... because there is the chance that they can succeed without the fusion. Had Piccolo not fused there, it's hard to tell what way things would have gone without a shutdown remote.

Here, if Kami does not fuse, it's not hard at all to tell how things will go. They will all die.

There are going to be people on this page complaining about Uub's power up being an ass pull again... when this has been foreshadowed for several hundred pages and several DOZEN chapters. There is also a clear set of reasons why characters like Uub, Goku, and Gotenks were removed from the situation during the Babidi fiasco — and this is one of them. Their power to this point has been unknown and, at times, magical.

To remind the "asspull crowd" why this is not an asspull, let's look at some things. Why was Gohan left behind and why were the others removed from the arena?

Gohan was not a threat to Babidi because he does not consider Gohan a fighter and in his timeline Gohan probably wasn't much of one. Even when he shook with rage, Babidi understood that Bra (who WAS a fighter) shared the same inherent potential, with more exploitable habits.

Why remove the fighters who were removed?

Royal Vegeta... is a Super Saiyan 3. He has more than enough power, even without control, to confront a character like Fat Buu and destroy him utterly. We saw him shred through multiple Super Saiyan level opponents with about the same ease as Bra. Unlike Gohan, Royal Vegeta seems to train a decent amount and is almost 100% vastly superior to a character like Cell... who was pretty even with Gohan.

Canon Vegeta is canon Vegeta. Even if Bra is stronger than he is, Babidi knows he cannot be controlled and is a massive threat. He would rather not take his chances with any Vegetas, as he said himself earlier in the tournament.

Vegito is definitely stronger than Bra, and Babidi does not want to deal with that until he has to. Possibly never, if he can help it. Get the dragonballs, then worry about Vegito.

Goku is Goku. Babidi knows that Goku is powerful, and has obviously dealt with a Goku of his own. Never count Goku out. He will always find some way to fight back, until the bitter end. That's the protagonist in him. He removes Goku because Goku is almost undoubtedly stronger than Kakarot, who Babidi knows is weaker than Royal Vegeta.

With the obvious ones out of the way, we look at the less obvious choices — and finally get to the point of why Uub's power is not an asspull.

Gotenks gets removed because he is demonstrably capable of SSJ3. He is about on the same "threat level" as Royal Vegeta. Having two of Gotenks around to support Gohan, Vegeta, and Goku would be a nightmare to deal with. Having those two fusions around is just too annoying when he has to micromanage a battlefield and already knows that some characters may resist him (like Cell ends up doing). He needs to keep the field stacked in the favor of his trump card, Bra.

Finally, we have come to Uub.

Uub is Goku's student. He is an absolute unknown... beyond the fact that he is possibly magical (to an unknown degree), at least as strong as Fat Buu with a "well kept Kaioken" of unknown level. We know that Kaioken, when used beyond its base level, is clearly stated. Uub proves himself Fat Buu's equal with a basic Kaioken, and were he willing to go further, could have possibly destroyed him at the cost of his own body. We, the viewer, know that Uub is willing to do this (he sacrifices himself to knock Broly off balance at an age younger than what we see here). The reason Babidi removes Uub is because he, like us, does not have a proper frame of reference for what Uub is capable of. We see a younger Uub use "Maximum Kaioken" in earlier pages to disrupt an otherwise unstoppable Broly... and we cannot assume he has gotten no stronger since then.

Uub, at his peak power several years before the start of the tournament, has demonstrated a willingness and capacity to exceed his own limits... and the reason this is relevant is because he is Goku's successor. It would make zero sense for Salagir to make Uub weaker than Goku forever. People who think this form is an asspull are ignoring the fact that Uub has been training nonstop with the strongest man in his universe since he was a child. Every time we see Uub on the page, he has been pushing his limits or trying to exceed them. This power is not unexpected and it is not new to us, the viewer, even if it is new to Goku.

This is no more an "ass pull" than Gohan's rage boosts were. It has been foreshadowed for as long as we've seen Uub. His arc is that he will one day surpass Goku, and whether that day is today or not, we know that it is something he has worked for. It's unfair of any reader to assume that Uub has not worked for this form... or otherwise been granted the inspiration for it several hundred pages ago, when he was visited by Zen Buu, who has all of Goku's knowledge in his head.

The student is trying his best to surpass the master.

Don't discredit that. 3 Replie(s)

kkk was saying:
Unless there's a twist in the next pages, I think this is what people call an asspull.

How is any technique from a character we've seen fight TWICE an ass pull? This has been foreshadowed so hard across the last thousand pages that every single page with Uub on it has a comment wondering what this technique was going to be.

People complaining about the possibility of the student surpassing the master here is confusing to me. If Uub wins, that's... exactly what Goku himself would want. Having someone defeat him only makes him more excited to fight that person, and Uub learning new techniques from a multiversal tournament is probably part of the reason Goku brought him along in the first place. What is this tournament for their universe other than a safe chance for growth?

If Uub does manage to win this, it would also follow a trend set by Salagir earlier on in the narrative — Vegito lost to his opponent too, despite being the favorite to win the whole thing... but Bra goes onward, as the inheritor of her father's mantle whether he approves of her or not. If Uub wins here, that sets us up for a chance at seeing something magnificent: a healthier Bra who could find a healthy rival in Uub, who has inherited his master's countenance.

Goku/Vegeta and Vegito are meant to contrast each other narratively here. Goku and Vegeta are healthy mentors to their kids and students. They are more aware of what those students want, and what those students can handle.

The issue with fusion is that it follows a Shonen philosophy that we've seen in other media before: power does not make you better, it amplifies who you already are. Vegito is massively more powerful than Goku and Vegeta, but his amplified power brings with it the amplification of their flaws. Restlessness, irritability, obsession... things that were honed out over a decade of peace have only had time to grow within him.

He passed those traits onto his student, Bra, and we saw how that turned out. There's a reason a lot of readers don't like Bra — she isn't meant to start out likeable and what happened to her isn't meant to make her immediately liked.

Instead, we're supposed to see her failings as an extension of Vegito's failings... and realize that, yes, Bra is sort of a terrible person... but she's a terrible person who would not be so terrible without her father bearing down on her. Without his influence, she would be, quite literally, a different person... and maybe learning that he isn't the end-all-be-all of power is enough to help her overcome that and work toward a better personhood in her own universe. 3 Replie(s)
