Ok, this is actually an argument that's been asked on many occasions throughout the Dragon Ball fandom, and I have a theory: When they don't sense somebody in the smoke and assume they're dead, it's because the ki from the aftermath of what's usually an explosion or series of explosions gets in the way and they can't properly sense their opponent's ki.

U13 ssj3 Vegeta punched Kakaditz so hard that Kakaditz has a hole on Kakaditz's belly and caused blood to come from Kakaditz's back. That injury that Kakaditz got will kill Kakaditz unless Kakaditz has immortality. However, if Kakaditz has immortality it would take several days for him to heal after he got a hole on his belly.

I can't believe that the animation is so poor, we have come so long from the start and now the story has gone so interesting the animation looks like "special chapter", this needs to be stoped and yes I can understand the effort and the hard work the artists are up too, I appreciate that, but before 1000 pages (or even 1500) the animation was so much better.
