With Gohan's brains wouldn't Giga Buu have left a piece of himself behind so he wouldn't outright die and could separate out again? Then go to Namekian's to fix Broly's mess? Or should I stop looking for logic in a scenario where the bad guy just has to win?

My bet is Zen buu absorbs Bra and then lets everyone in. As for the vision with Gast vs Vegito, I'm betting Gast knew Buu was screwing with them, but didn't say anything and Vegito's pissed cause his silence cost him all this pain? Gast motivation maybe Zen Buu knows how to undo Gast fusion since he gave away new techniques to a bunch of participants for some rounds?
