You didn’t close your eyes because of the punch, but because of your fear of receiving it.
If you can feel that fear without letting it make you close your eyes, you will be able to react and take the first step as a fighter.
Fear is unchanneled survival instinct. Accept it, let it flow through you without wavering, and it will no longer paralyze you, but instead give you the clarity of a warrior.
You will become both hunter and prey, able to respond to the aggressive assaults of an opponent seeking to corner you, while also perceiving his flaws in order to defeat him.
