Another flawless victory for Biggest Great Green.

Also, nice coloring, truly highlights and brings out Gast's Great Gains.

You know, I'm starting to believe that XXI is actually quite a nice guy; he plans to help out Universe 19 if he wins and is now giving the hungry Vegito a freebie "No Press X to Doubt" Senzu Bean. What a stand up guy!

I'm now quite certain that the Senzu Bean won't cause any abnormalities for Vegito...

Well, Cell is definitely showing a mixture of arrogance and confidence in a similar vein to Vegeta; I suppose without Frieza's DNA, he doesn't act or sound as regal or refined. Perhaps without Frieza's DNA, Cell's Saiyan DNA has more room to flourish and will make up for the lack of strong DNA and battle experience.

I don't believe Gast will struggle nor will it be an uphill battle, but it should provide some contest for Gast to flex.
DB Multiverse page 2481
Gast Greatness 13 Huhtikuu
Universe 7's version of Cell appears in a captivating color spread. Seeing that this Cell doesn't have Frost Demon DNA in his constitution, he does have some strong vague resemblances to Namekians and Saiyans than Frost Demons in his design, which I'm glad to see, since I've always wondered about Cell's design differences and battle capabilities without Dragonball Canon materials (the Androids and Frost Demon DNA).

If it is Gohan, then it's a cool twist; it does appear to be leaning into that direction. After all, Gohan did have a superhero alter-ego in the main series, so it wouldn't be far-fetched (in regards to the height differences between Gohan and Videl, Gohan has always been taller).

If not, then it's nice to see secondary characters getting their time in the spotlight.

I'm sorry to say, but this is nothing but a cop-out and an excuse to justify terrible writing, because the author cannot accept constructive criticism.

Not even Dragon Ball Multiverse backpedaled the entire Son Bra backlash and instead stuck to its guns. 2 Replie(s)

Glad to see the main antagonist of Dragonball Multiverse acknowledge my greatness :) I am truly honored.

As for the different wish XXI is asking this time, seeing as asking how to defeat his opponents easily is no longer working out, I assume it has to do with Vegito, most likely XXI wants Vegito to be wished into the arena once the final starts. However, I noticed that in the bottom left panel, XXI's Shenron has a sweat droplet when asking if it's a request to him (or perhaps it isn't and I'm overlooking) and appears to be uncomfortable.
DB Multiverse page 2462
Gast Greatness 2 Maaliskuu
Ironically, I was thinking XXI was purposely showing us extra filler award scenes to distract everyone from the summoning of his Shenron, which looks stellar and swole, a cool mix between traditional Chinese dragons and modern bipedal humanoid dragons with human-like arms and wings.

A colorful audience spread page filled with cameos, Easter eggs and references, along with a variety of equally colorful audience members. Well, at least when XXI gets around to consuming them, he can't complain about the lack of variety in his meal.

Some cameos/Easter eggs/references I spotted: Faputa from Made in Abyss and Phosphophyllite from Land of the Lustrous.

Regardless as to whether he deserves an award in this case or not, Cell really shined in the Majin Rebellion arc; he was an actual character with personality, which was a missed opportunity in DBZ.

Also, solid double-spread.

DrewSaga was saying:
Cell sure as shit don't deserve it. The dude played both sides for his benefit. Cell should really consider politics or business.

Technically you got your wish, as the double-spread is acknowledging this in a way. See how there isn't an audience behind Cell, but there is one behind the other universes? 1 Replie(s)

I doubt the awards to the Third Placers will be a Dragon Ball wish to each of them, or maybe they will be. The awards will probably be a lifetime subscription of something.

Not all the Dragon Ball Z filler episodes were 'bad'; the 125th episode showcased the necessity of humans in the world of Dragon Ball. And it was funny seeing planet busters being unable to learn or perform simple human skills.

XXI agrees? You wish. After all, he didn't promise them.

Took just a bit of energy and 2 panels to get almost fully recovered. No wonder XXI called him a king's feast; he clearly sees my greatness :)

Son Bra wants to negotiate? Yes, this is a brilliant plan; let's negotiate with the eldritch abomination that's clearly going to celebrate his tournament victory by hosting a feast for everyone.

As for the eldritch abomination himself...him swearing makes sense in this instance, since it's behind closed doors. Not sure what his deal is...I assume it's because being unable to feast on my greatness delays recharging his Dragonball Ex Machina, or he's peeved that Gast is going to tattletale his true form to Goku. Or maybe he's peeved because his plan/strategy, for the first time, didn't work out. 1 Replie(s)

Honestly, the dialogue could be much better; XXI should be saying "Dammit!" and Goku should be saying "Whoa!" instead of "Wow!".

That aside, XXI only got a small serving of my greatness; he wouldn't be able to digest it all anyway. Serves him right!

In hindsight, Son Bra was right to forfeit her fight with Gast. If she was in this semi-final, it could have gone much "worse":

Son Bra: I need an adult...
XXI: I am an adult.

Look, it's not entirely bad; XXI needed Janemba's help to weaken Gast, so he could take him down himself, so again, it's a testament to Gast's strength. If Gast was at full strength, it would have been a high-diff against XXI.

But then again...considering XXI's theme is consumption...what if XXI was using Janemba to "tenderize" Gast?

GASPS: IF the above is the case, then perhaps XXI wasn't kidding when saying he could beat Gast on his own.

And IF this is indeed the case... Goku is screwed, with or without Uub's magical plot armor. 1 Replie(s)

Ultimately, this final bout will come down to whoever miscalculates first or makes too many miscalculations; the pressure is on for Gast as the tide of battle is shifting in XXI's favor. Also, there's XXI's puppet body that might be outside his dome of black smog, so again, pressure of time as well. As of now, it might very well be Gast who breaks under the pressure and miscalculates. Still, the fact that XXI needed Janemba to weaken Gast and ultimately himself, is a testament to Gast's strength. So if he ultimately loses, I won't be entirely miffed.

But more importantly, can XXI consume a knuckle sandwich?
DB Multiverse page 2443
Gast Greatness 15 Tammikuu
As I said previously, I believe XXI is making a costly mistake in not preparing any more tricks or traps, overestimating his own raw power and miscalculating if his opponent is truly weakened.

And now, we see that Gast still has gas in the tank. Honestly, this final confrontation could go either way.

Also, we're starting to see XXI's true form slowly reveal itself. Luckily for him, only Gast will bear witness. After all, he's quite shy.

"This is the end..." - XII

Gee, XII looked like he was having trouble ending Gast with that Ki blast. And punching him seemed to take a lot of effort. Said punch was easily blocked by the "weakened" Namekian.

Strange, I thought XII was supposed to be leagues above the rest? After all, XII easily disintegrated that piece of Zen Buu, implying "formidable" strength.

What's going on, XII bros?

On to the page itself, I get the feeling that Asura seems to enjoy drawing the black smoke and black backgrounds, as XII looks quite polished along with XII's trademark black smoke. Perhaps it's easier to draw in black, or perhaps it's just me. 1 Replie(s)

DB Multiverse page 2436
Gast Greatness 25 Joulukuu
I take the good Doctor's reaction to Thorn's email message as a "NO".

Dr. Gero already has Cell in the developing stages. Come to think of it, the original DB canon never explicitly stated that it had to be specifically Androids 17 and 18 that Cell needed to absorb. I'm interested to see if this universe's version of Cell is completely different to others, since Dr. Gero himself is spearheading the creation himself, and if using different Androids results in a different appearance and capabilities.

I'm glad Dr. Gero doesn't use power levels when determining the strength of his army and opts for a "naughty list", thereby inspiring us to reflect that numbers aren't everything :)
DB Multiverse page 2433
Gast Greatness 21 Joulukuu
Admittedly, when I first read the page and saw Thorn wanting a full view of Earth's situation, I did find it strange that he would want the full view when he just experienced it; two Androids just attacked him and Gast and at the end, Krillin helped them fend off the Androids. Krillin is part of the Resistance; Resistance protagonists, Androids/Red Ribbon Army antagonists.

I understand the writing behind Thorn's "arbiter/third party" stance; in the tournament, Gast stopped Vegito from killing Bra, as it's his characterization/personality in seeing both sides of the situation, seeking justice and opting for peaceful resolutions. In that regards, Thorn is consistent with the writing we saw in the tournament.

So on one hand, we have consistency with characterization and personality, one the other hand, it feels out of place considering Thorn already experienced the full view (Gast didn't know the entire story behind Vegito's antagonism towards Bra, hence why he intervened). Basically, consistency is clashing with events that don't require it.

Perhaps Thorn's words could have been worded differently, saying at the beginning "We'd be glad to help you", showing that he understands whom the aggressor is in this conflict, then ask to double check the situation; there's no harm in reaffirming and because he showed understanding, Bulma would be more glad in answering further questions.

Maybe the next page will better contextualize this page. As it stands, I appreciate the consistency and I don't believe it was necessary in this case.

DDDDD was saying:
DBM is an impressive undertaking, but seriously, would it kill them to get a single native English speaker to review their dialogue? Some pages in this comic contain extremely obvious grammatical errors that even an English-speaking child would have been able to catch (eg. "Stopping Tenshinhan, it's enough!"), or sentences that just straight-up don't make any sense, like this page. I'm sure there are countless fans who would happily do it for free, or hell, even just ask ChatGPT to have a look.

You have a point and it doesn't hurt to double-check. However, from what I gathered regarding the team behind DBM, they are not native English speakers and English is their second language. Regardless if they've been speaking it their entire lives, English spelling is notoriously difficult, as it's not phonetic. And then there is translation from French to English, which has further complications, even if the French and English language share many words with one another.

My point being, getting an absolute accurate French to English translation is nigh impossible, so I assume what the DBM team does when translating is instead of focusing on the grammar, they focus on conveying the meaning behind the words as closely as possible, to the point any native English speaker can immediately grasp, regardless of the grammar being slightly off.

Still, it doesn't hurt to double check and have some input from a native speaker. I just think that ultimately, translation is difficult and the English language is fickle, so it comes with the territory. 1 Replie(s)

A few weeks ago, I was reading Janemba's wiki page and being reminded that he was defeated with the Stardust Breaker which "purified" Janemba, so in the back of my mind I thought that Gast will also end this battle someway with "purifying" Janemba. How uncanny.

As always, the artwork is excellent.

Since Gast has won the battle with Janemba, there are a few ways this fight can go:

A) Gast collapses and ends with XII overlooking his opponent, paralleling Chapter 93's last page of Vegeta down on the ground and Goku overlooking his opponent.

B) XII sneak attacks Gast and claims victory, similar to the ending of Vegeta (Universe 13) vs Raichi.

C) XII starts revealing his true form and this chapter ends on a cliffhanger before it's fully revealed.

D) In a plot twist, XII congratulates Gast and offers him a partnership, so together, they can rule the Multiverse.

E) XII...gets on his knees...and bows before my greatness. 1 Replie(s)

Using the power of Hokuto no Ken anime references and "skillfully learning" (not copying) the techniques of others, Gast cooks up a char-grilled Janemba to be served and consumed.

Thus revealing that Janemba was but a mere demon all along...and you know what...(sniff) I'm going to miss him; we really built a deep and intimate connection throughout this fight (blows nose).

We have seen Janemba being pierced by his broken blade, which was conjured using dark magic/evil aura, so it's safe to assume that Janemba is either immune to "light" magic, or only certain magic techniques, and is still affected by "dark" magic.

It's difficult to see if it was Gast who immobilized Janemba, or if Janemba is immobilized because XII is recalling him; the dark shadow smoke is usually associated with XII. However, seeing that there is dark shadow smoke originating from Gast's hand, it's probably him using "dark" magic to immobilize Janemba. We'll have to wait and see. 1 Replie(s)

Well, this page certainly through me in for a loop. The last page implied that Gast was nearly done for, but this page goes back to what I previously thought; normal for Gast to be very injured but barely shows any signs of exhaustion. Now that Gast has pushed the evil aura shards out of his body, he'll slowly regain his magic and Namekian regeneration, much to Janemba's displeasure. So it looks like this fight truly isn't over until the Vargas counts down to 30.

It's also good that Goku is watching this fight, as he'll need all the information on his opponents to gauge their strengths and weaknesses, since he definitely needs it.
DB Multiverse page 2407
Gast Greatness 18 Lokakuu
I was under the impression that despite the injuries, Gast barely looks exhausted (he had similar injuries at the end of his fight with Dr Raichi, but then again his magic and Namekian regeneration was healing him). It looks like I was wrong.

Well, I went into this fight with low expectations; many thought XII would defuse Gast and be done with it. But seeing that there was an actual fight and it's implied Gast will defeat or destroy Janemba, robbing XII of an advantage, I'm satisfied.

I would have liked for XII to reveal himself with his backup tricks and fight Gast to the finish, but it appears that won't be happening. As much as I would like Gast to win, the story is heading into the obvious direction; Goku vs XII.

But this fight isn't over until the Vargas counts down to 30, so there could still be an actual skirmish between Gast and XII.

DrewSaga was saying:
MUI was saying: DrewSaga was saying: Oh shit, Gast is in real danger! It's gonna be extremely hard to fight with glass shards covering you and these are magical shards that are preventing Gast from regenerating.

One thing is for certain I think and that's XXI going to the final round. Even if Gast manages to beat Janemba he is too messed up to fight XXI.

MUI was saying: If Gast cant even defeat Janemba he doesnt deserve a place in the finals. Goku going to be the hero to defeat XXI

Just to give an example. If SSJ Vegito fought Janemba he would defeat him just as easy as Gogeta did in M12, since Gogeta and Vegito are equals.

Idk if Goku could do a whole lot better. His only advantage would be that he has a grasp on how Janemba fights. Goku's speed and the way his SSJ0 form works will surely help.

Goku should be able to defeat Janemba imo. Goku got a lot stronger with his SSJ0, rivalling or even surpassing Mystic Gohan. And he know Janemba and his haxed abilities. Last time they fought Goku got defeated as a SSJ3 yes, but it wasnt a stomp. Janemba got the upper hand and Goku run out of stamina in the end. This time Goku is much stronger and wont run out of stamina either.

Well the issue is that if Goku fights Janemba, Janemba is certainly going to do some damage (hopefully not by this nasty attack) and a worn out Goku has to face a full powered XXI. The same problem Gast already has now. Except if Gast beats Janemba and loses to XXI, then XXI might have to face Goku without Janemba and that would be Goku's ticket to victory because I am sure that XXI used nearly all his best moves.

Gast Greatness was saying: As expected, Gast isn't walking away unscathed from Janemba's Lightning Shower Rain.

Since Janemba has shown a technique to dampen or nullify Gast's magic, then even if the possible Goku vs XII final happens, whatever magic Uub gives to Goku will be greatly diminished or cancelled outright (even if said magic was taught by Zen Buu).

I have no idea how such a battle would be written, without coming off as BS (then again, the BS will be right off the bat, since there will be a convenient reason why XII doesn't trap Goku in the Reverse Hyperbolic Time Chamber Dimension at the beginning, probably because it will be written as a one-time technique).

Still, Gast isn't out of this battle yet. Who knows, perhaps Gast has a hidden transformation up his sleeve.

If XXI is getting help from an eternal dragon (assuming his friend there is one), then it's not crazy to think what XXI did with Vegetto, #18 and Zen Buu were all one-time moves and XXI can't do that Inverse-HTC stunt on Goku.

I agree, it will probably be written as one-time techniques. If that is the case, then in terms of writing and as you said in your reply to MUI, it would be imperative for Gast to defeat Janemba, forcing XII to throwdown and have him use all the remaining "best" tricks he has up his sleeve, leaving XII with limited and weakened moves, options or tricks. This would make a possible Goku vs XII final round to be more believable and give Goku a fighting chance. 1 Replie(s)

Gast's Ki blast connects and scores to equalize.

I doubt this will defeat Janemba, but it will probably have damaged him. And depending on the damage, XII might stop observing and step in, having used Janemba's distraction to cook up a trick in the background.

In regards to Janemba's portals working, I believe they're configured along the lines of "in-out, out-in", one side of the portal is configured in, the other side out and vice-versa. The portal in front of Janemba uses "in-out", which caused Gast's Ki blast to go in and then through the "out-in" portal behind Gast. Then Gast turns around and puts his Ki blast in the "in" side of the portal, which then went to the "out" side of the portal facing Janemba, which caused Gast's Ki blast to reach Janemba's face.

However, regardless of whether the portals work like this or not, the writers were ultimately attempting to convey that anime-manga trope of the protagonist figuring out and using the antagonist's strategy/technique against them, which was nicely done.
