Catching up to Goku in power despite Goku unlocking SSJ3 way before him means that no matter what the results, this is a big win for Vegeta. I'm really glad he got back up and pushed the fight forward, even if he ends up with a tie or a loss anyway.
I'm really curious to see Vegetto's thoughts on the two of them reaching a Mystic status before he did. It would be interesting if Vegetto actually did try to do it in the past, but was unable... which is why he appeared so frustrated when Goku and Vegeta unveiled it. 1 Replie(s)

I think it would be cool to see how Roshi and the Crane Master tackle Korin's Tower differently.
The Crane Master could see climbing it as impossible, so he develops the levitation technique to reach the top easily, forming the basis of his Crane style and it's emphasis on techniques. Roshi climbs it the hard way, improving his physical fitness throughout, forming the basis of his Turtle style which is based in physicial training and toughness. 1 Replie(s)

Yeah, I called it! Mystic Goku and Mystic Vegeta! (so did lots of people lol)
I really like how this powerup makes sense from the perspective of the characters; it's only natural they would look to follow Gohan's lead because his strength had not yet been surpassed. But at this point in their training they would never accept getting the ability from the Elder Kai, because it wasn't earned on their own.
I'm curious how Vegetto is going to feel about this. He has often times scoffed whenever someone beneath his strength shows off a new power boost, like when U13 Vegeta unlocked SSJ3. But seeing his two halves achieve something that even he hasn't shown the ability to do (even though Vegetto is still way more powerful) might push him closer into the future that Bardock saw.

I'm expecting some kind of variation on Gohan's mystic boost. Something that lets them tap into SSJ3 power without it's drawbacks (other than the long meditation start up).
From U18 Goku and Vegeta's perspective, the pinnacle of Saiyan power isn't SSJ3, it's Gohan. It makes sense they'd look to copy him. 2 Replie(s)

I'm curious if Bra's forfeit has something to do with the next round opponent being a magician. If she really is only interested in getting Universe 19 their wish, she might be calculating that Gast, who also has magic powers, stands a better chance against XXI than she would. So she thinks getting Gast to offer one of his three wishes to U19 is the most likely path to achieve her goal.

If this were a first round match between the two of them I'd agree, but I think it makes sense for her character to be more cautious than when she started. Gast has shown that he has enough tricks to beat her (and Vegetto for that matter), but also a lot of the Saiyan characters seem to think most clearly when it comes to combat.
Personally I think Gast is going to win because of the potential next round match between him and XXI. I haven't seen any supplemental material but I'm under the impression that XXI's power is somehow tied to the Dragon Balls? To me that means that a fight against someone that is basically the ultimate Namekian is more compelling than XXI trying to cheese out a win against another strong Saiyan.

This was definitely one of the best side stories, both in terms of art and storytelling. Late Dragonball/Early DBZ is when the series is at it's best in my opinion and it's really awesome to see those plot threads crash into each other here.

I love Gohan's portrayal in this series. Supremely powered up and awesome, but his greatest strength is still the same kindness that turned Piccolo from a villain to a hero.

Asura deserves a lot of credit for just how well they draw Babidi. He's so different looking than other characters and it can't be easy to get such a huge range of emotion out of his funny little face like this.

I like seeing a "dumb" character like Gotenks make a good point occasionally and showing that they're smarter in some ways than you would give them credit for, but... it's weird seeing Gotenks lecture so calmly and reasonably. It would make more sense for him to express himself through an outburst, even if he's still saying pretty much the same thing.

I always thought that the Potara fusion was superior to the Fusion Dance. If I recall correctly, Elder Kai explicitly said as much. But admittedly it's been a long time since I've seen the Buu saga so I could be misremembering. But if true, it could explain how U18 Gogeta and U16 Vegito are close in strength even though U18 Goku and Vegeta are stronger now. 3 Replie(s)
