And like, let's be real, DBM is nowhere even close to as popular as it once was. Whether that be due to the comic itself, outside factors, or most likely some combination of both, it's pretty clear that the whole "page no matter what" principle hasn't really done much to retain reader interest.

I don't know about site traffic but it is one of the most viewed fan comics narrated by Mondocool and he covers most of them. DBM is still one of the few fan comics I've seen with really passionate fans like yourself who comment multiple times per page and have 100s or 1000s of comments overall.

Salagir was saying: DBM doesn't need to have a point. We do things for free and we do what we want.
Many of you, especially Wukong, obviously get very angry when reading every page of DBM. You should stop reading DBM, making yourself angry isn't good for you.

If anything's made me angry, it's this response.

You have this really nasty habit of attacking your audience. You did it with the Kakarotto misunderstanding in chapter 50. You did it with the Bra hate. And you're doing it now.

Making mistakes in your story is tolerable, as is disagreeing with your audience on whether they're actually mistakes, but your attitude towards the people who want to see you improve, isn't.

"My work has no point and I'm going to do whatever I want regardless of quality, which I'm allowed to do because my work is free" is an awful stance for any creator to take. If you're not going to care about the quality of your content, then why should your audience even engage with it? Why should there be any attempt at quality in art or story if it's all pointless? Why even allow negative comments at all? Negative comments are meant to help improve. If there's no point to all this, you might as well delete every negative comment since they are all made in vain.

Been reading DBM for 15+ years and was really hoping to see the end of something I've put stock into since my teens, but if you're not going to care about your creation, then I don't see any point in me doing it. Plus I have a personal rule. If the creator of something doesn't want you engaging with their content because it's supposedly not for you, then don't.

I would hate to see my boy Shady Doorags leave. I do think it would be frustrating for any author if their story had some really dedicated fans who post hundreds or thousands of negative comments and sound like they hate it every time they posted. I have the fan comic compilation thread on Kanzenshuu and DBM is the only one on that entire list that gets this kind of attention. For every other fan comic, the only people who consider it worth their time to comment have to like something about the story so it's only constructive criticism. Occasionally there's a negative comments but no one spending years posting like that.

I recall you saying you had a YouTube channel so it would be like having someone bash your content every video and sometimes multiple times per video. I think it's normal reaction to question why they would dedicate so much time specifically to your content when they sound like they hate 99% of it and not interested in using that time on other channels instead.

Croy The Salty was saying: I'm not arguing for no criticism but it just when almost every page is just filled with "This story is lame", "The art is ugly",and "What the point of this story". Its becomes the artist and writer want to tell there story but the commentators wanted a story be made for them. I understand the sentiment but it feels like bullying. I want the story to be like the art style and written the way I believe it should be but than what's the point. It fun to see what they create and continue to create new things to see what comes from it.
"This story is lame", "The art is ugly", and "What's the point of this story" are all criticisms of the comic. The point of people asking for the art/story to be the way they want is that said people believe those changes will improve the work, aka they are criticizing it. If you have a problem with this, you have a problem with criticism in general. It would be different if you were advocating that the suggested changes wouldn't improve the comic, but you aren't. You're arguing people should accept the original vision without complaint, which is telling them not to criticize it.

Well giving criticism is within the rules but I don't think anyone is talking about the occasional constructive criticism. There are some people who comment every page or multiple times per page and have hundreds of comments that are mostly all negative. Of course they're free to do that until the very last page of the comic. It's just pointing out the difference since they sound angrier and giving the story more attention than most fans for any fan comic out there.

Round 2! I'm glad the fight continues since it's probably the last brawl of the tournament. XXI always wins with one spell but I hope Gast is able to counter some of his magic.

Speaking of Gast and Vegetas that know Instant Transmission...I have finished Gast & Palz! Thanks to everyone who took the time to read it!

And that's why the focus of the series at this point isn't Piccolo nor Tenshinhan, it's Goku and Vegeta. The drive for improvement has never let up. Whether it's DBZ or DBS, there was always someone stronger, always something new to strive for. After Buu, there was Uub. Lucas is right, "this is the wall you can't climb" is an arbitrary idea that's detrimental to the themes of the story. It only benefits the systems and mechanics and powerlevels and tiers, which are all inconsistent at best, awful at worst. Hardly worth trading the themes for.

Well there's always someone stronger until the series ends. Toriyama said one of the reasons he ended with the Buu saga was because he couldn't think of more powerful villains than Buu popping up and ways for Goku to get stronger. This is from 2016 so he only continued after getting new ideas and suggestions. For DBS, many fans already expect Goku's peak to around Beerus but still below Whis and Zeno not surpassing them offscreen after it's over. This applies to every shonen series I've seen. The characters continue to grow stronger and reach their peak or close to it by the end. It's also why almost every fanfic I've read doesn't have them grow much stronger unless they're introducing new forms and stronger villains. The concept of a limit or diminishing returns applies to all those and it's usually mastering their final form, ability, etc in that series.

Jubjub was saying:
But Elder Kai said this in relation to a permanent SSJ Vegito. Emphasis on "permanent" (as in he could NEVER turn it off). Saying SSJ is "destructive" under Elder Kai's verbiage would be like saying a non-stop jog forever is destructive. It's not the jogging, it's the fact that you can never stop.

I think Old Kai was talking about SSJ in general when he said "it overstresses the body". He was referring to permanently remaining in SSJ since that would have a greater toll than transforming every once in a while. When Goku and Gohan were mastering SSJ, Goku said they'll remain in the form except while sleeping so that could mean Goku thought it's possible to eliminate most of the stress but not 100%. Reducing lifespan doesn't necessarily mean they're going to drop dead soon and just that a Saiyan who uses SSJ more often might have a slightly shorter lifespan than the average Saiyan.

Well that's an interesting way to look at it. Some people give their opinions but some go the extra step of insulting everyone who disagrees. I'm not sure what's wrong with what he's saying. It's basically reaching the same conclusion as the gods in U18 except that he witnessed alternate universes that show they don't have intervene in every potential threat. It doesn't necessarily mean he's going to jump to the opposite extreme of doing absolutely nothing in his universe.

did shin really come to that mindset? i mean if your thinking about super where he stated that it means nothing if mortals dont work up to it themselves he was immediately berated for it. in z shins touch is more that hes young naive and alone to do his duty. he has kabito but thats about it. he knew where buu was before babidi and didnt guard it.

I don't think it was outright stated but more implied based on their actions. Shin was aware of the Saiyans and Freeza but only intervened against Buu. I guess it's not uncommon for fictional gods to only intervene against universal threats while letting the universe work itself out when it came to a mortal overlord, army, or violent races. Same with Kami. He didn't get involved with anything on Earth until there were threats to the whole planet.

Kururun was saying:
... Yeah I think it's really dumb, wave-particle duality has no place in DBZ, just like whatever the Buu who fought Broly namedropped in that previous special.

You can keep namedropping SF concepts and pretend the DBZ universe is complex with all these wars and politics, all day long, that's still not convincing in the slightest. Stuff like Dragon Ball Kakumei did radically change the universe tone and all but it did in a convincing manner, through artstyle and plot, it didn't just drop some lines here and there about offscreen politics.

And the Kaioshin's argument really doesn't make much sense. They're not Gods with a capital G, they're just "gods", aka superpowered individuals with the same consciousness as everyone else, maybe with more powers or a different job, but this whole argument about chaos is a lot of bullshit and would never fly in DBZ.

Well this conversation couldn't happen in DBZ since the Kaioshin only got involved with Buu who threatened the whole universe and Other World. This is from a Kaioshin who intervened in every potential threat to their universe. I don't think it's trying to make DBZ more complex since some of what they mentioned were just references to other franchises. It's not like we're getting entire chapters of it.

I agree with your comment about constructive criticism helping an author improve. I was curious what you meant by "you think I got to where I am". Son Bra was saying:
That's incorrect on a dozen and a half levels, but let's see where to start? There's no "amazing story to be had here. This is just a slugfest, and it pulls from arguably the some of the worst parts of the Dragon Ball franchise - the films and games - to do it. While it does branch off into its own thing, none of those are riveting or fascinating enough to keep the attention of anyone whose preferred past time is reading an actual novel. I stopped actively reading Dragon Ball Multiverse ages ago; I only know what's going on - and thus take the time to rag on this embarrassment - due to a friend of mine on Discord who keeps sharing every painful second of this. If he's going to make me suffer, I'm going to manifest here and complain about it.

If you feel the art is the only thing good about the story, that's a fair opinion to have but what's the point of adding that last part? A lot of fans have given criticism without needing to justify why they're on here or make it sound like they're forced to do it.

Hello! Nice job on the special so far. I had some questions if you can answer them.

1. When did you begin working on this special?

2. How long did it take to complete?

3. What happened to Dragon Ball EX? It was a pretty good fan comic but hasn't updated since 2016.
Scar-faced Bandit 21 Hunyo 2020
@Lord Rime
U18 appears in most of Bardock's visions that haven't happened yet and the other universes with the most screentime diverged from different choices made in U18. At the time, almost everyone in U18 has completed their character arcs which is why characters from other universes are getting the chance to have some development. I think this was established early on within the first few years of DBM. I understand if someone doesn't like this concept but no one should be surprised by it this many years later. If this was a major deal breaker or hinders their enjoyment of the story, they probably would've left by now.

To be honest, most of your recent criticism and/or complaints sound like from someone who only recently found DBM and never read another fan comic. I checked your comments and from your previous account and I don't think you've had these complaints before. I know people can change but it took you years to complain about ideas that were established when DBM first began.

You also talked about sunk cost and watching a trainwreck but is that worth all the time and effort to keep up with DBM including checking the comments for replies. It sounds like you're not looking forward to anything in the story and no longer like the general premise that was known years ago. If a long running show drops in quality, the TV ratings decline and sometimes cancelled because fewer people care to watch it. There were some fan comics or fanfics I've read that I no longer enjoyed so I either stopped reading them completely or caught up with them far less frequently. I enjoy DBM but if there came a time I lost interest then I would do the same and not spend more time on it.
Scar-faced Bandit 19 Hunyo 2020
I do think this flashback is taken out of context and Bra is looking for an excuse to blame Vegetto for her actions. It's already been brought up but before Bra was even born Vegetto worry that his son would be unstable and threaten the universe one day. Vegetto was also putting up with Bra and trying to help her control her power so I don't think Salagir could forget all that to make Vegetto to blame for how Bra turned out.

I agree if this scene is meant for us to sympathize with Bra so she doesn't have to face any consequences then it doesn't work. If that was really the goal, it would've made more sense to have her attempt to resist Babidi or at least show regret for her actions. I don't think that's where the story is going because she's only having this breakdown after being called out on her insecurities. I hope the special goes into more detail and reveals the whole flashback.

Dr Raichi was saying:

A big reason people have turned away from this comic is Salagir's inability to have his characters face consequences.
I don't think he's aware of it. Or if he is he's too stuborn to admit it. But it's a persistent patern.

To be honest, this is the first time I've heard this. I've heard people say they hate Bra because she hadn't had her comeuppance yet. I can understand that but the story isn't over and I assume Salagir wouldn't give her flaws if he doesn't intend for her face consequences from them. She lost to Zen Buu and only survived because he wasn't taken them seriously. She was evil enough to be possessed by Babidi and too weak to resist him but we still have to wait to see what consequences she'll face.

Besides Bra, I'm not sure what other characters you're talking about. Several characters who had it coming have lost or been killed throughout the story. In universes where a villain has won, they suffer internal conflicts that implies they won't have a happy ending.
Scar-faced Bandit 14 Hunyo 2020
Dr Raichi was saying:
I believe the biggest difference between DBM and An Earth without Goku and DBZ Elsewhere is that the latter two are aware they are a webcomic. Thus they move the plot forward at the pace of a webcomic. Which reads much more fluently.

DBM, by contrast, behaves like a manga with the release schedue of a webcomic. Which leads to great frustration and borredom.

I agree about the Senzus and teamwork. It only happened twice but I think once would've been enough. I would've had Piccolos run out of Senzus or maybe decide to destroy them and rely on Buu to heal people so Bra wouldn't have any to steal. Bra returned and attacked them before they could come up with a plan but I still would've liked to see more teamwork and more characters attacking at once to account for what they were doing.

I have to disagree about DBM behaving like a manga with the release of a web conic though. It's been pointed out multiple times how this is far shorter than many battles from the original manga. Finding examples of other fan comics with even shorter battles doesn't mean DBM's are anywhere near the length of those found in professional manga.

I enjoy DBZ Elsewhere but it only had a chapter per year since 2018 so I usually only check it once a year and I'll have to catch up. I remember the battle between Goku and Heiwa lasted three chapters and about 45 pages which is about equal to two DBM chapters. That's longer than every battle in DBM except for this one due to this being a group battle and not a one-on-one match. U3 Raichi vs U13 Vegeta was shorter but most of the ghosts were fodder to Vegeta and easier to kill than the opponents Bra was fighting. I think this battle could've been handled better but I can't say it's too long by fan comic standards.
Scar-faced Bandit 12 Hunyo 2020
Hussain was saying:
Much of it is still wasted despite the artists taking their sweet time. This arc did not deserve to be such a long one. It's a general consensus.

I respect if that's your opinion but how did you determine it's the general consensus? Less than 1% of the people who read DBM leave a comment. It's hard to determine how they feel but usually because they don't care to comment or it's already been said so they have nothing to add. Since comments vary and don't share the same opinion, it's an even smaller percentage of overall fans who have taken the time to complain or consider most of the arc a waste.
Scar-faced Bandit 12 Hunyo 2020
jaimehlers was saying:
So I think the Majin rebellion could have easily been condensed down to two chapters, with Majin Bra appearing at the end, and then having two more chapters to deal with her storyline.

I understand wanting the story to move faster but I think the length should matter more than the time it takes to release. The entire Majin rebellion is about 1/2 to 2/3 as long as the battle against the Ginyu Force so it's already short for a battle royale involving this many characters. There's a YouTuber animating the chapters of DBM and each chapter is about 10 minutes long. The entire Majin Rebellion would be about 4 normal length anime episodes.

It took three years to release but it's going to be a completed arc far longer and however long it remains online. Shortening the story even more so it would take less time to release would only make it feel more rushed and wasted potential for future readers who would only take a few minutes to read it all.
Scar-faced Bandit 11 Hunyo 2020
Lord Rime was saying:
Huh. I completely forgot about those.

Did you recall all your previous comments within the last month from memory? I assumed you had to double-check your comment history so you just needed to scroll down a little more to see those comments :P.

Anyway I was just curious because it seemed like you didn't have major issues with the Majin Rebellion and first two chapters of this battle. It could be you weren't interested and wanted to wait until the arc was over which you almost did since this might be the last chapter. If you feel the whole arc is filler now, you might feel it's a bigger waste of time the more time you spend on it and in the comments.

I keep up with several fan comics but DBM is the only one I read by page. The majority update much slower than DBM so I usually wait to read them by chapter every few months or year. I still offer criticism when I catch up but I don't frequent them more often and complain since that doesn't speed things up. Fan comics already have shorter battles so I rather they don't rush through them even more.

Scar-faced Bandit 27 Mayo 2020
misi was saying:
That's pretty neat. Do you upload them anywhere?

Yeah you could find them here. Specials mainly exist to give the main artist more time so I decided it's more fun making my own version to pass the time than complain every page. I plan to do that with this battle once it's over. Anyway I just wanted to offer possible solutions for your criticism. I wasn't sure if you agreed or disagreed with my last comments about constructive criticism and the authors not wanting the story to feel too rushed for future readers since you didn't reply to them.

I've been reading DBM since 2011 so you're not the first person to complain about pacing/schedule and won't be the last. Same goes for almost every fan project I've seen. I've done it too after catching up with the comic but eventually I get used to it. I assumed that happened with the others who complained about it since they're around anymore.
Scar-faced Bandit 27 Mayo 2020
misi was saying:
I have mentioned this before, but the pacing issue is NOT based on how much time is being spent on the battle in db multiverse's world. It's not the number of minutes or hours they spend fighting. In this case, pacing issue comes from the creators composing the visual medium, the storytelling tool. Again - when you work on an online comic with 2-3 pages per week, you have to tailor your visuals and make them more compact in a way so it shows the same story, but doesn't become dysfunctional in our - the readers' world. Sure it's not a "long battle" based on DB standards. But it would need to be more compressed so it's not drawn out that much.

All fan comics have shorter battles than in Z due to the slower release schedule. Almost every battle in DBM has been shorter than Goten vs Trunks or Zarbon vs Vegeta aside from two or three. The authors also don't want them to feel rushed to future readers. Blaze explained it better in a previous comment:
"Considering DBM will be a completed (or abandoned) work for far longer than it will be in the process of being made, I really hope they don't increase the pace of the comic. They're already sacrificing a lot of stuff to have new events come out within every page or couple of pages, any more would be too much.

"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad" has some flaws as a quote (namely that a delayed game is not going to necessarily turn out good) but I think it applies here."

misi was saying:
If I had the time I'd take the panels of the Bra fight and chop them up to see what I mean as an example. But that is a luxury I can't afford nowadays...

I've done that with some of the specials and plan to do that with this battle. From experience, that has taken less time to make them than frequently checking the page and having long discussions throughout those chapters.
Scar-faced Bandit 27 Mayo 2020
misi was saying:
I still think it is a bit pointless, vague an often condescending to hide behind the term "constructive criticism" on this forum. There's no point, the most constructive of them all would not influence anything, so suggesting that people should strive for it is just a fancy way of saying "I don't agree with you/your tone". Just be frank and say how you feel about things, is what I believe in.

Tone is part of it but that's usually in the definition of constructive criticism so I didn't think I would need to specify that. It's recommended in literature, business, or any interaction with another person because it has a better chance of leading to a change and requires more effort. Of course, it won't change anything in a chapter that's already drawn but it comes off as as less negative than constantly complaining so you would feel less of a need to respond to people just to defend your right to complain.

It also depends on what issues you have with the story. For example, I didn't like Bra stealing Piccolo's Senzu beans and thought it would've been better if they had fewer Senzus so they would be out of them by the time she was injured and needed it. They're out of senzu beans now so it's not going to happen again and I'm waiting to see how that affects the outcome of the battle. Other than that, I didn't have major issues and enjoyed most of it. Based on your complaints, you don't like the pacing despite it being a short battle by DB standards and you find it boring and predictable. That's perfectly fine but I don't think there's a solution for those besides waiting until the battle is over. Would you feel it's better to spend months reading it and having mostly the same complaints throughout or wait and catch up in a few minutes to give your thoughts on the battle as a whole?

To be fair, these took a few pages to show but you've been having the same complaints multiple times per page. I don't know what kind of professional work you've done but I assume a professional would know the difference between that and constructive criticism. I don't agree with everything that's happened in this battle so far but if I had as many complaints about it then I would've waited until the fight was over. To be honest, most of your complaints would probably be resolved if you waited until it ended since you could catch up in a few minutes.

Honestly, Id leave, but Ive been here since high school and Im a creature of habit. I do still enjoy the comic, its just the Bra arc thats a pain to sit through.

I really should take a break, but its hard when youve been checking religiously for 6+ years.

I'm glad to see you recovered in time for the new page! I've been reading for nine years and still capable of taking a breaks. It's pretty common for fans to take breaks from long running stories when they're not interested in the current events. That way you could spend that time on something else and return when there's more content to read or watch.

Many people leave their thoughts on the page and then wait for the next release. I've noticed you're very active and many of your comments are either trying to justify your right to complaint or disagreeing with anyone pointing out the difference between complaining and constructive criticism like last page.

You're free to do that but I'm just wondering why you feel that's a better use of your time than taking a break or even just complaining once and waiting for the next page. Whether you complain once per page or keep revisiting the page to complain multiple times, it's still the same outcome. If they release the entire chapter now, it'll take a few months to complete the next chapter so it would still take the same amount of time to reach the end of this arc.

I've gotten this remark throughout the last 12 months from different admins that maybe I could offer criticism that would "benefit the story, or improve the quality". That's nonsense of the highest order.

That's the common definition of "constructive criticism".

misi was saying:
On what level could criticism determine the story that is written and drawn in advance? We can only criticise things we see in real time, I think.

I agree. That's why I think complaining about the pacing when it's a pretty short battle by DB standards and demanding the fight end quicker isn't going to help since this part of the story is already written and drawn in advance. You're free to complain but it's not doing it multiple times per page is going to increase the likelihood of it changing anything.

You don't really need to literally quote someone to quote someone. The use of "criticism", only used once before in the whole page, has an obvious target. We can all play blind if you want, and say the victim is only a victim if he's offended by it, but the target of that is really not up to debate.

There were more complaints when you posted his comment and has pointed that out before. I'm not sure why anyone would get upset over it. If they want to complain, no need to take comments about them in general personally.

Xeno was saying:
Seriously, I don't even care, it's not even targeted at me and I found it funny, but I'm really interested in this absurd devil's advocate you're trying to play here. XD

You cut me real deep just now :(. Why would you assume I'm playing devil's advocate? I agree there's a difference between offering constructive criticism that could benefit the story and constantly complaining about what you don't like or something the author can't change like the release schedule.

i think you haven't been reading the comments properly...

I noticed he didn't quote anyone in particular and talking about the comments in general. One would only be upset by what he said if they felt it was directed at them. Here's a more detailed explanation of what Jim meant:

"The line between complaining and criticism is thin. Criticism is associated with judgements that are well thought-out and constructive in that they may offer a way forward. Criticism is an earnest attempt to improve something where complaining is verbalization of negative emotions and dissatisfaction."

Moth was saying:
I didnt say he couldnt criticize criticism, just felt it was hypocritical for him to call people obnoxious. Ergo, I criticized his criticism of the criticism, no?

If you wanna turn this into a big thing I'm not getting into it, as I've said I've got stuff on my plate that are a bit higher in priority than some internet spat.

Jim was merely pointing out the difference between constructive criticism and people who only complain. If you felt he was being hypocritical, are you saying you would agree with that comment if someone else said it?

Invader_Jim was saying: Handing out criticism and being an obnoxious prick are two different things.

Dude Im gonna be honest, you arent the most polite person in this comment section, so thats kind of like pot calling kettle black.

You said: If they dont want their work criticized, the only answer is to lock it up where no one can see it.

Doesn't that go both ways? If you don't want your complaints criticized, the only answer is to lock it up where no one can see them :P. If you feel you were offering constructive criticism then you have nothing to get upset over or assume Jim was talking about you.

So we get teased with the big cliff hanger from the last page and then get a mini comic shoved in the middle with no notice and then even though the page got spoiled they’re still going to release it Wednesday and keep us one page behind where we should be? Whoever came up with this idea doesn’t give a f*^% about the fans who follow this comic.

Sorry you feel they don't care about the fans. DBM is one of the very few fan comics with a release schedule and the vast majority either only release a page per week or whenever the artist has free time. While the next page has been delayed by a few days, at least we know when to expect it and not have to keep checking back every few weeks waiting for an update.

https://w...727.html#h_read <--- The actual page. Tiny Cell Jr. says "Take this!"

Don't get your panties in a bunch people, they're probably just translating. Be patient.

It's fixed now! Sorry we forgot to set the minicomics to update automatically. The pages appear in English first before being translated to other languages so the English page for this section is ready for Wednesday.
