And so, after so many years, the Multiverse Tournament ends. With a whimper.

What an utter disgrace. Salagir went and humiliated the main protagonist of Dragonball, showing little respect to him in this fight or to those who care about the character - the childhood hero of many people, myself included. Worse still, from the buildup and, heck, the chapter cover itself, this seems to be no fluke, but a genuine attempt to troll the readers.

Just to make things perfectly clear: the issue here is NOT that XXI won the match, and thus the tournament. XXI winning could have been a great twist, especially after the foreshadowing suggested that XXI himself was not sure of his victory. Most people would have expected Goku to win somehow, and defying expectations can be a good thing, if done well. Goku trying his best and still failing could have been epic.

But instead, Goku lost like a moron.

Every single opponent of XXI, even Vegetto who confronted him first, knew that they should not give him the chance to cast any spells or use other magic. Heck, even Goku showed awareness of this fact at the start of the match, when he tried to arrange things so he could transform PRIOR to the beginning of the battle. So then, after breaking out of XXI's alternate dimension, why, just WHY in the name of all kaio shins did he simply stand there, monolouging like an idiot??? That was his chance, his ONLY chance in fact to strike back, and he wasted it. According to Vegeta, less than a second is pretty much "an eternity" in this form, so he apparently wasted more than an eternity to brag - and paid for it with his life. His defeat is utterly humiliating.

Call me an entitled reader, if you want. But actually, even if my contribution wasn't huge, I've been part of this fancomic's team for around 15 years now, doing comment mod work and translating pages to Hungarian day after day, week after week. I've tried to remain constructive when Pan was killed, I've tried to voice my concerns in a civil manner when U16 Bra was let off the hook. But this... this is worse than those combined, and it breaks my heart. :( This feels like all my efforts were a waste of time, because Salagir not only made Goku look like an idiot, but deemed it necessary to end the tournament, the main theme of the ENTIRE story, with a random, anticlimactic plot device - because that's what I'k'l's power is. We have no idea how it works, how it could possibly be countered, we have no idea why cyborgs are unaffected by it... it's just conveniently there. So, so incredibly disappointing and disheartening. :(

I am sorry, but how can he spout shit like "You won't be able to inflict suffering..." after they just suffered from South Kaioshin. South Kaioshin just came at them with an evil intent yet here is old Kai spouting shit like he 100% can decide what is evil and what is not.

I’m not sure we can say this is out of character for the piccolo of this time… he is older and matured, I think it makes sense he takes a leaf out of Gokus book here. It seems almost natural for a villain turned good to behave like this based on what we know about Goku and the effect he has on others, a great ending to piccolos arc tbh.

I remember how people claimed for a long time that Salagir hated Freeza because Freeza was so weak. But then you forget that Salagir was just following the template from DBZ. Freeza has tended to lose out since Namek (movies, filler, Mecha-Freeza). And then Salagir went to the trouble of creating a decent family tree for Freeza, with a real backstory for both Freeza's uncle, grandfather, great-uncles and great-grandfather. Plus the additional stories of how frost demons emerged and began to discover and conquer the universe. And that all after the fact that Freeza's family was treated like a joke in late DBZ products. But because Freeza is unable to one-shot an SSJ3, and instead adapts to the situation and tries to steal the Dragonballs in secret, Salagir supposedly hates the character. Sure.


Talking about Vegetto, if you include the U16 novel, Vegetto's character in DBM is really fascinating. And I always find it sad when people break Vegetto's portrayal down to just "he's the strongest" and "Vegeta/Goku are just cosplaying as Vegetto", which really doesn't do his role here justice at all. As others have mentioned, Vegetto made his position and stance on power known in the fight against Maqua. All that matters to him is power and no matter what happens you just have to be umpteen times stronger than your opponent. It is this attitude that is challenged in the DBM tournament. While Vegetto had the fun of his life against Broly, the Fusion has since found his outlook challenged time and time again, in fundamental ways. I think this buildup, which has been going on for almost 2000 pages, is much better than just having one event make Vegetto snap. And if Vegetto is constantly portrayed as the winner, his case later wouldn't come across as credible.

But it looks like the general belief among (many) DB fans is the following:
Author makes character lose = author hates character.

You’re actually wrong. Two different punches and two different perspectives. The left panel where goku gets punched shows more of the thumb side of the fist making it appear larger. The right panel with vegeta being punched is the opposite making the fist appear smaller. Also the shading makes the fist seem smaller, the image with more white seems more prominent to the eye. Not only that, but vegetas face looks considerably larger due to his hairline. Please put your fist on your face and you will see.

This story of this chapter is such a terrible mess. You have the first 4 pages be time-wasting filler, then the 2 next pages are about two different major plots that have nothing to do with each other (not like anything worthwhile happens in them either) and now you're back to the time-wasting filler. What happened? The older chapters weren't structured this poorly.

Rock Lee vs Gaara (Naruto), Superman vs Darkseid (Justice League cartoon), it just seems like even if you don't get hurt, if your opponent is strong enough to launch you, and fast enough to get ahead of you afterwards, you just can't fight back until they've either warn themselves out or smashed you into a surface giving you a split second to recover.

Ok maybe I missed something but why should Buu lose, wasn't Broly adrift in space, frozen? And given that Buu would release the warriors after the battle, even his survival wouldn't mean that they would find him as a contestant, while all the others would still be similar to their counterparts in U16/U18

What happened to the serious nature of Gotenk from before? Why are they treating this as a joke, Broly literally killed all of your loved ones and the humans of earth. This is stupid.

He doesn't have to win, he just needs to survive and get frozen in space. It's possible the Vargas met Brolly's Z Warriors but had their invitation rebuffed due to this event satisfying any future need for powerful warriors.
