NO SPOILERS AHEAD. If you're wondering what I mean, for those who have only seen the Invincible show and not read the comics, the fourth panel references a moment that hasn't happened in the show yet. That's all I'm gonna say...

Aw, damn shame! I was looking forward to seeing this come back but I understand circumstances sneak up on us a lot. If anything, I appreciate you giving us the synopsis instead of leaving us in the dark. Having some kinda closure will soften the blow.

Janemba: I'm from the government, and I'm here to help!
He didn't clarify who he's helping, and that's the kicker!
Krillin looks like he feels at least 20 pounds lighter in that last panel, and not just cuz he shrugged off all that luggage! He's struggled for years in the shadows and now an old friend literally comes down from the sky to lend a helping hand. I'm starting to feel lighter myself, in fact!
DB Multiverse page 2427
Stuff like this is why I came to appreciate Krillin over the years. He knows he's weaker than every major villain he's encountered in Z, but not like that's ever stopped him. He threw himself at Vegeta until he could barely walk, cut 2nd Form Frieza's tail and taunted him in the next breath, tried to fight Perfect Cell, and even tried defending the Lookout against Super Buu after the latter escaped the Time Chamber. No matter the power gap or likelihood of getting folded, Krillin still does what he can. I like Krillin. :D

As for the plot here, seeing them team up here is really nice and all... But teaming up can go both ways. Nappa might try and back up Vegeta; I dunno. HFIL, he could even help against Vegeta. That'd be interesting to see, considering how Nappa ended up in the Saiyan Saga.

I'm so down for a good extension of a short fight from the OG version. Show off Bojack's brutality a little more, really drive home to U18 Pan that she's a small fish in a big ocean. Also cool to see something (or someone) hit the barrier every once in a while. Gives the fight some impact, if you ask me.

So, more Sayians survived Planet Vegeta's destruction? There were supposed to be only 4 but there's a bunch of them after all. It's like Order 66 all over again.
The Order 66 thing used to bother me until I heard someone break down the numbers. The Jedi Order was about 10,000 strong, give or take. Even if you wanna count that as just ranked Knights and above, it's still a pretty nice number. After Order 66 and the Great Jedi Purge, their numbers were put down to about 50. The galaxy's a big place, so it's not surprising that some stragglers made it out. Either way, that drop in numbers is terrifying to think about, especially when even the strongest remainders knew they couldn't play on the same field as Vader and Palpatine, who were still hunting them down. It took two greats to train up Luke and even then, he was still lucky to make it out alive.
As for the case with Planet Vegeta, it's no surprise to me that Saiyans other than Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz squeaked by. The Saiyans were a species of space-traveling warriors in another big galaxy, so getting them all back on the planet at the same time is a feat on its own. For me, it's possible for some stragglers to be running late or disobeying the call back or something and Frieza decided to start the fireworks show without them. During the time of Planet Vegeta's destruction, there was no one Saiyan that could face Frieza alone and he knew it. We have an entire species dropping down to about 10 confirmed specimens and none of them could hold a candle to Frieza at the time, even if they all teamed up. And then if they won by some miracle, there's still Cold and Cooler to deal with.
With these circumstances at play, I'm down with the idea of a small number of Saiyans still scattered around the galaxy, laying low and being unaware of each other. The genocide was still very impactful and even by the end of Z, the species hadn't gotten the numbers back up. That isn't to say I wouldn't have a problem if every arc involved a surviving Saiyan coming out of hiding to meet the Z Fighters, but that technically only happened a small handful of times in movies.
TL;DR: The Saiyans started off in massive numbers that plummeted to about ten within a day, so I'm not all that bothered by the idea of random survivors laying low out there. 1 Replie(s)

As a fan of Bardock, Turles, and Broly, I'm eating well so far
It's been a while since I last saw the Tree of Might movie, but it's interesting to look at it as Turles trying to prepare to fight a greater foe that would show up on Earth later. It gives the character more depth beyond him being a power-hungry renegade, not that I had a problem with that in the first place.
Taking this fan manga into account also makes me wonder if things could've gone differently had Turles been more up front about his motivations to Goku. In the movie and at least a couple video games, he's always trying to recruit other Saiyans but never mentions an ulterior motive that they'd pursue with him. I think if he actually stopped to talk with Goku about Frieza and Cold and what they do, Goku would at least remember Raditz's big lore dump back at Roshi's house. I'm positive Goku would also want to fight Frieza and Cold even just for the thrill of it and maybe bring morals into it once he gets to know them better. Teaming up with Turles, though? That's where it gets muddy for me. We already know Goku isn't above making temporary truces with foes to combat greater threats; he teamed up with Piccolo to fight Raditz and was ready to work with Vegeta to take down Captain Ginyu and Jeice. However, this was the same Goku who disowned his own brother when he saw that Raditz was rotten to the core. Turles is a bad apple too, to the point where he knows the difference between good and evil and just deliberately chooses to be evil. However, Turles and Goku would still agree that Frieza and Cold need to go down. I think if they were to try and forge an alliance, Goku would want to make Turles and his men swear off the Fruit of Might and just train with the Z Fighters instead, which I doubt Turles would go for. Turles likes taking shortcuts and leeching off others and their planets; he doesn't seem to respect the trials Goku took to be able to even face him on the battlefield. After all, Goku worked hard all his life and was still getting tossed around by the corner-cutting Turles. As the strongest guy on the scene, Turles would see his methods as superior and probably end the negotiations there, allowing the movie to proceed as normal. If Turles knows he isn't getting through to someone, he'll try and dispose of them.
So yeah, a team-up between Turles and Goku sounds like a complete longshot, even if I would like to imagine it's remotely possible. He's on his own, and it's no surprise he ends up dying in a lot of timelines, chasing a lofty goal and falling short every time.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but to my knowledge each special chapter is mostly drawn independently with the ones lucky to be finished getting posted. These chapters can take many years to draw with drafts, re-draws, real-life events, and cross-continental work across multiple languages all contributing to the difference in release schedules. Minicomic 91 tells us how challenging and time-consuming this can be for only a few pages. The first script being started in 2009 for instance and the final pages posted in 2019. It might not be indicative of all the specials, but it does tell us that these talented artists and storytellers do this as a hobby, so we should be mindful and respectful of that. Dismissing their hard work because you want to see something else can be rather disheartening I would say.
We're all lovers of Dragon Ball here, and this is all free. The least we can do as fans is appreciate what story they're trying to tell through the art and dialogue shown, and show support for what they've done throughout the years.

I was getting ready to complain that this chapter was poorly-timed since we already saw Bojack die, but I forgot all about how the specials are put together. That makes a lot of sense and I respect that the chapter was even finished in the first place. Besides, even if I was to complain, I'd still be reading the pages as they come out, just like with any other chapter. Bojack may not be in my top 10 (or even top 20) Dragon Ball characters but I'm still interested in seeing what's gonna happen in this chapter regardless. Timing's just weird, even if it's nobody's fault.

We got the FighterZ comments in here and I'm gonna piggyback on that with some Mortal Kombat! Up in the top panel, everyone's making the same pose as Scorpion during the pre-fight VS screen in Mortal Kombat 3 (I think it was 3). Scorpion is one of many ninja characters in the MK franchise and their appearances used to be differentiated by color alone with a base costume design that they all shared. The rosters of the older games felt very padded out with all these seemingly copy-paste recolor ninjas, with only their attacks and Fatalities to set them apart. Nowadays, they tend to have more distinct designs and identities but its still a fun reference.

Man, you can almost feel these hits. I'd imagine if the fight doesn't end with one of them collapsing from exhaustion, we're gonna get a crazy, painful finishing hit.
Preach! Can you imagine if entire chapters were released all at once and we got the whole fight spread out over two big content drops? Or if the "pacing crowd" all started reading from the beginning of DBM for the first time after the fight was finished and got to see it in its entirety in one sitting? I'd bet money those people would praise the fight for how long it is and most of it looked really fast for everyone right before we got the rewind. Any "problems" stem from the fact that we're seeing this fight as the individual pages are coming out. It's easy to trick yourself into thinking its dragging on but that's because reading it all at once is a different experience; a quicker one, at that. I can almost guarantee that once we're past this chapter and a first-time reader came in to catch up with us, they probably wouldn't have a single complaint about the pacing. Might even be one of their favorite fights in all of DBM; I dunno. I could very well be talking nonsense but I have a strong feeling the comment section would look different if the fight got dropped all at once or in halves. 1 Replie(s)

1 Replie(s)
Whatever's gonna happen next, Piccolo, you'd better be ready to dodge.

I knew it was Final Bout! Vegeta's fists were the giveaway for me.
That's Dragon Ball Final Bout.
I'm loving this cover. You got Uub and Buu just doing their thing in the trenches while the significantly more powerful Zen Buu looms over them in the background.
DBMultiverse Colors page 45
I'm loving those background effects in the first and last panels, especially Kakarot's flames. It's a nice little visual break from seeing the arena in the background all the time.
It's funny cuz U13 Vegeta kicks things off with a few insults sprinkled in, but that's just Vegeta being Vegeta. Other than that, it just seems like he and Kakarot were genuinely curious about how U18's experiences compared to theirs. Kakarot doesn't go into gruesome detail about his time on Earth when answering Piccolo's question, U13 Vegeta asks what happened during their time on Namek; they were making conversation. Sounds to me like U18 didn't wanna give these guys too much of their time because they come from a dark version of their timeline and either already abandoned or outright rejected the U13 ideals entirely.
Well, I didn't expect to look into this page that deeply, but here we are!

The other party is being friendly and introduces their power. Why are you being a jerk and say you're better than them instead of telling them about yours, Vegeta?

So far I think it is neat how they are increasing Phipsil's participation
I like it too! Considering she gets scenes and dialogue way later on, I feel like retconning her into earlier chapters was a very necessary change. Frorenst did a great job drawing her in!

Anybody else read Jeece's voice in an a space Australian accent?
Only way I read his voice, really.
After being spoiled by the later fights (especially with Asura's work), it can be pretty easy to forget how short and simple a lot of the earlier fights were. I'm not complaining cuz we still got cool showcases like the Heliotes' tech, Kat and Syd, Raditz' eye lamps, and Vegito vs Broly; it's just that there was a lot of necessary weeding out to do. Well worth the wait, though, considering the great fights we'd end up getting later once the smallfry got tossed out.

Guys we do know that in OG Dragon Ball that nudity was quite common and used for gags like how many times we saw this stuff? Quite a lot so really the whole Lan-Fan thing was "Ah bringing back OG Dragon Ball humour? Huh interesting."
dimunsis was saying:
It is kinda weird seeing so many comments about how "unexpected" the nudity and harassment apparently is. I think the people saying that stuff have either never seen/read the first Dragon Ball or did and just didn't like those gags to begin with and intentionally forget about them. I'm not even trying to be insulting when I say that; the former crowd's missing out and the latter crowd just didn't like the jokes. Thing is, though, that's not gonna change how the gags are. DBM is trying to maintain the style and identity of the first Dragon Ball here and I say more power to them. This is just how Dragon Ball was and I'm enjoying the ride.
For a comic that has blood/gore, people losing limbs, being cut into pieces, child endangerment/abuse/murder, psychological and body horror, people sure are getting hung up on a pair of breasts that have appeared for a single panel on a single page.
Going through the original, uncolored version, I was always imagining white armor with black jumpsuits, like Clone Troopers or Stormtroopers from Star Wars. A whole uniformity type deal. I like this here, though. None of the color schemes are too outrageous and it sends the message of a militia being allowed to customize their armor a little. Good stuff!

Didn't he only recently rip off prison bars like they were paper mache? He may have accepted his last prison sentence but if he gets big boy time I'm pretty sure he would just escape.
Well, that's true. I guess they could just keep reinforcing his prison cells, but I'd imagine they could only go so far with that. 1 Replie(s)

Homeboy already got nabbed twice in the last chapter alone, once for a sexual crime. I doubt a court's gonna be sympathetic to a repeat offense, so he'd better play it clean here if he doesn't wanna go away for a long time 1 Replie(s)
It's an obvious thing but I'm still glad the story took the time to organically introduce the audience to some of the other combatants. With two goofy characters like Goten and Trunks showing us around, it made the introductions feel light and fun.
Also, still don't like that U16 dressed mostly the same as U18 (exception being Bra, of course). Sure, made for a good couple of gags like Gohan putting his arm around the wrong Videl and the fissions in Gotenks vs. Gotenks, but other than that, it always kinda bugged me. If you've ever seen the concept art for Goten and Trunks, I think their U18 selves should've looked like that while U16 G&T had the casual clothes. Similar mentality to the differences in clothing between the two Pans. As for Gohan, a different shirt or something...? I dunno. Piccolo, though; no matter the universe, guy's been rocking the same look since Dragon Ball's final tournament. Gotta respect how comfortable he is with the fit, even though it would've been funny for one of them to wear the Postboy clothes.

I always appreciate the strategy element that we see a lot in the earlier days, mostly in Dragon Ball. Krillin's using his (bald) head here, and I'm here for it!
Man, don't get me started! Made me crash one time and I'm still salty about it. Now, if it were Bill Burr (a normal-sized man) grappling my wings, he'd make it funny even for me. Depends on the guy, I guess.

A spell so legendary and powerful, the greedy and cowardly higher-ups in the realm of video game wizardry have been trying to abolish it for console generations, for they have gazed upon its power and allowed fear to corrupt their hearts. Despite their greatest efforts, they are still at the mercy of the spell and its endless horde of admirers that scream its praises from the highest of peaks. If the existence of the spell is threatened, like clockwork, the admirers enter the scene as one to defend it.
What is that spell, you ask?
GLORIOUS BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY!
(I actually have played Double Dash on the Wii; my friend could just put his GameCube disk into the console and it worked without a hitch!)
