Wait, I'm kinda confused. Are we to assume that they have figured out XXI is related to this attack or not? Both Gast and Vegetto know XXI is evil, but neither actually went directly for him, instead focusing on the weaker distractions. Vegetto saying he's going to kill XXI, but first going for 17 is surprising to me knowing XXI has the very technique that cut Vegetto himself in half.

It doesn't really matter there's more story to tell after this - this still is a climax the story has been building up since the beginning. Saving the single worst fight in the tournament to the finals is just a bad storytelling. Also, are we really playing the card of "the tournament wasn't the actual point of the story!" After literal 17 years of tournament story being told? The site having a dedicated section to the tournament? There being special news on the "grand finals" beginning soon before it released? Being the final destination or not, the tournament is the most iconic part of this webcomic.
Seems like a childish take imo.
Also, pretty wild that people are complaining about a 17 years spanning free comic.
People need to grow up.

Well, it's a comment section, you should expect it to have comments about the comic - be it positive or negative. You mentioned yourself that people need to grow a thicker skin, that would include recognizing that not everything is going to sit well with everyone, rather than turning a blind eye just because of how old it is. I personally gave the benefit of the doubt and defended the comic before the match was officially over, and also gave the feedback when the result of it turned out to be bad, in my opinion. 1 Respuesta(s)

I'm not really sure what's the point being made here.
If you can claim the story after the tournament doesn’t matter, which is clearly not the case, I can claim the tournament after the semi-finals doesn’t matter.
It’s impossible to write a Goku XXI fight as good as Goku Vegeta’s for two reasons. Firstly,XXI is an OC who has never interacted with Goku. Secondly, XXI is not a fighter and is not interested in the tournament. He’s only after the dragonballs. There’s neither emotional weight nor any possibility of interesting twists in this fight, both of which Goku Vegeta had which made it great.
To have a grand final that didn’t suck, XXI needed to be eliminated earlier and we had this arc of the heroes trying to stop him from obtaining the dragonballs before the end of the tournament.

You're twisting my comment. I didn't say the entire story after this doesn't matter because it's the tournament finals, I said that, regardless of there being more story, the tournament finals SHOULD be good.
Also, if the finals can't be good because XXI never interacted with Goku and his fight-style can't make for interesting fights, ain't that a really huge problem for a fancomic made for the most well known fighting anime in history with the theme of a fighting tournament? And I disagree it's impossible to make a XXI fight regardless. Gast had a real fight with him (even if it wasn't one of the best fights, it wasn't bad either), and that didn't rely on his magic at all to work. In fact, I'K'L's ability would also allow XXI to one shot Gast if he had access to it at the time, with XXI's dragon acknowledging neither Gast or Goku had any obvious weakness to take advantage of.

Goku vs Vegeta was an incredible fight, and a thrilling climax to the tournament. It doesn't really matter there's more tournament to tell after this - this still is a climax the story has been building up since the beginning. Saving the single best fight in the tournament to the semifinals is just a good storytelling. Also, are we really playing the card of "Goku vs Vegeta wasn't the actual point of the tournament!" After literal years of teasing Goku and Vegeta’s fight? The site having a dedicated special to Goku and Vegeta fighting? There being a special announcement by that one Varga on the "Goku vs Vegeta” beginning soon before it released? Being the final destination or not, Goku vs Vegeta is the most iconic part of this webcomic.
I'm not really sure what's the point being made here. That Goku vs Vegeta was a well done fight and the coreography lived up to the hype? Because yes, if Goku vs XXI was as good as Goku vs Vegeta was, I don't think there would be nearly as many people complaining, regardless of the result (and just trying to be sarcastic adapting the comment makes it make no sense either - "Saving the single best fight in the tournament to the semifinals is just a good storytelling."???). It doesn't excuse the finals being bad as there's still weight to it - that's also why Arale vs Mary Sue being a round 1 comic relief match is fine, but you wouldn't expect it to happen at this point in the tournament, right? 1 Respuesta(s)

Yeah, I was waiting until this page to see if there was any kind of twist left, but with Porunga making Goku come back to life, there's 100% no going back now. This is really bad, and the characters recognizing it's bad doesn't make it any better.
I saw a lot of people saying stuff like "Tao Pai Pai one shot Goku as well to establish him as a threat! It's to motivate him to get stronger!", but this is not the same thing. The tournament finals was what this webcomic has been building up for years, the fundamental premisse of it - even if there's story after this and always was planned, there's a reason why the official description for this comic on the website is "20 timelines that diverged from DBZ meet in a multiverse tournament!". This isn't like Tao Pai Pai, we already established XXI as a threat (besides being the main target of Elder Supreme Kai and I'K'L, we already saw him defeat Gast, the only one who threatened Zen Buu of all things). It's not the final encounter against the antagonist, but this would be like if Freeza one shot Goku before he got to Super Saiyan or Cell one shot Goku before Gohan went to fight him for the actual finale. It may not be the intention, but this doesn't make me feel shocked at how powerful XXI is, it just makes me feel disappointed with the story for building hype and not being able to keep up with it. 1 Respuesta(s)

Would also explain why he didn't use this on Vegetto (who has never been injured at that point), #18 (again, never injured), Buu (can heal from anything) or Ghast (also never seriously injured and can regenerate)
Gast was completely destroyed by Zen Buu's trap on his second invasion, so he would've been vulnerable too - it was also mentioned that Gast almost eliminated him and he complained how "his fight wasn't easy at all despite the promise", so I don't that's the case here. Goku was also mentioned to not have an easy path to victory for XXI, so it's most likely something complex that he did here.
Either way guys, I doubt this will be the end for Goku. We know they cancelled the scene where XXI would force guy to say what he did to Cell because it would be a legit disqualification - doing that just to have a 3 pages fight wouldn't make sense. Goku is gonna recover from this...somehow.
