Hello Operator was saying: So... maybe I'm missing something, the 'Vegetto is hungry' bit has been repeatedly mentioned over the last few pages... but has this hunger of his been brought up before?
I recall that regular senzus don't fully heal him anymore, apparently they have a senzu bean farm planet to keep up with the demand. 100 senzu beans apparently aren't enough to top him off either, even when he looks fit for full duty. Bra needs to eat more than one as well, seem to remember her chomping two or three out of her glove.
This feels like it is supposed to be a Chekov's Gun moment but nowhere do I recall Vegetto mentioning this hunger. I also seem to recall him eating just fine during one of the breaks.
Am I missing something? I love DBM but it feels like this needed some foreshadowing to flow naturally and that didn't happen. As already mentioned by others, Vegetto's hunger is only a side issue that is mentioned from time to time. It is therefore understandable if not every reader is fully aware of this.
Vegetto relies on Senzu Beans to maintain his health from declining. Due to being a 'double saiyan', Vegetto has twice the hunger compared to when he was still Goku or Vegeta. Only senzu beans can curb his hunger from reaching crisis levels.
This is a major plot in the U16 Fanfic. At some point Vegetto realises that normal food no longer nourishes him anymore. Together with his family, they devise a plan to solve this problem. In a nutshell, Vegetto cultivates Senzu Beans on another planet. In case there is interest in reading the story. The Senzu Bean Planet Arc is covered in chapters 5 - 12.
The comic, however, provides only hints about Vegetto's extremely disturbing metabolism at the beginning. After the fight against Broly, Vegetto points out that Namekian healing is no longer sufficient for himself (Page 230). After U16 Gohan, Son Bra and Vegetto escape from Zen Buu, they end up outside the arena. There Vegetto states that he would survive because Piccolo would soon find them. The Namekian is also the one who keeps the senzus of the U16 Z group (Page 278). And as the trio recovers from their injuries by eating Senzu beans, you can clearly see Vegetto literally eating two whole hands full of beans at once to get back in shape (Page 280).
On Page 1977, we have another rare hint at one of Vegetto's weak points. Without senzu beans, he will continuously lose vitality. However, as he mentions himself, a few days he can hold out. At least until he doesn't get injured and has to rely on healing.
On page 2088, Vegetto experiences a minor mental breakdown. And there it is clearly mentioned how his hunger plays a role. The “Total Annihilation” technique has used up Vegetto's power reserves. Comparable to the Final Dragon Flash versus Broly. And without Senzu Beans to get back to full strength, his condition seems comparable to the events of the U16 Novel, where Vegetto went months without Senzu and actually looked starved.
On page 2380 we see how Vegetto has survived thanks to the Gast. However, he is so weakened that he is practically running at minimum capacity in terms of power and vitality.

Thank you for this! The hints are absolutely there! I suppose to someone who reads these start to finish in a few sittings rather than those of us who have been reading 3 pages a week for the past decade or so, that would have been far more evident.

Finally we get ultra buu- Gogeta? Or is that Gohan inside Buu reacting? I assume the former. I think Broly is gonna mop janemba here and maybe this explosion will cause the universe to freeze over? Giving us why broly was stuck in ice for the tournament
Broly being frozen over is already covered in another bit, iirc. This isn't part of the DBM story.
This is just a trace art fan story "what if" scenario
Iirc XXI WAS concerned about Zen Buu (or maybe it was just Zen Buu was concerned about Gast). That tells me that magic COULD work here, but from a plot standpoint, magic can't be the ONLY thing that does it.
Unless, of course, we get Arch Mage Uub coming back sometime soon. Granted that is more of a "the time for games is over" fight where all our heroes team up.
For Goku to have a chance, XXI has to be suseptible to being punched really really hard in the schnoz.
Fun question though... what's the real final boss here? XXI or Vegeto?

So... XXI's definitely cooking something while Gast's cooking Janemba right
Oh absolutely. I got a feeling we're getting a repeat of the Hyper Vegeta fight. Super cool fight. Super cool fighter. One just ran out of steam before the other.
Gast is out there fighting for his life while XXI is just chilling... and I am positive he is doing more than just chilling. Gast may beat Janemba, but Janemba is not his true opponent.
XXI is about to use his last wish and summon Omega Shenron or something.
Look... I know that if we are following OG Dragon Ball tropes that Gast has to lose here so Son Goku can save the day...
But Gast is SUCH a f♡°》♡ng baddie here. Legit, one of the heaviest panels in the franchise so far.

Of course this movement bothered me while writing.
I mimed possible gestures several times to see if there was a way for Gast to go around the portal with the ball without losing too much dynamism. Then I told myself that it was possible, and I clearly specified in the scenario for Asura the necessary complicated curve :)
Asura drew this big movement well by the way.
When I saw the finished drawing, I thought "the detour is not super obvious... but....." But but.... in all the mangas I read, in all the cartoons I see... this kind of consideration is seriously ignored by the authors. They don't CARE... It's only me that it bothers... and the DBM readers who have three days in front of them to analyze the page before the next one.... ;)
So I told myself: let's leave it like that. It's very beautiful, and any attempt to improve it will be a failure.

WukongTheMighty was saying: Yes. It's dumb Janemba decided to melee dash with a ranged attack. (His sword projects its slashes)
Unless the dimension sword isn't ranged here for some reason.
It should also instakill broly.
Also, no force is imparted on the things the sword slashes, it cleaves through dimensions.
Watch the movie, everything it cuts is just cut, not forced apart.
Janemba even cuts an explosive ki blast without detonating it using it.
Gast shouldn't have exploded into the sky, he shouldn't have even noticed he'd been cut at first.
But whatever, I need to lower my expectations.
But a dash attack with the projected-sword-slashes is literally the first ever thing he did with his sword in the movie.
And only a few seconds later, when it hit the ground, it made a pretty heavy gash instead of a clean cut like it normally does. I'm pretty sure when he was cutting the blood ocean up, it was applying some blowback to a single half of it, in fact. It's not consistent in the source material, they're allowed to have it have some kick here

All of this. We also have to realize as we watch this fight that we, the audience, know about the characters' abilities and rough estimation of power levels, but the fighters are seeing one another for the first time. Jenemba didn't know about Gast's regeneration, Gast didn't know about Jenemba's ability to shrug off magic... but you best believe they both do now. In fights like these, you never want to show EVERYTHING you can do right off the bat because you have no idea what your opponent can do. I find it perfectly plausible that Jenemba went for the melee attack so he can pull the ranged slashes out later.
All said, the fact that Gast saw the sword and immediately formulated this strategy speaks to how quickly he is able to process his opponent and bodes well for him. I wonder if Jenemba, now seeing that Gast is functially immune to slashing damage, switches to a hammer.
Ol' Emperor Vegeta can't hold onto his hyper form much longer and, unlike Goku, neither of these boys would wait to "fight him at his best."
I fully believe that Raditz can take out a base level Vegeta. My money is on Vegeta dropping his from and the brothers finishing him off.
Nappa? I honestly don't think he cares who wins. He seems to enjoy just going with whichever flow keeps him alive.
Still doesn't answer the time inconsistencies and I would have love to have seen more of Mystic Raditz in the main story but I would be content if these two got their "happy" ending.
Only thing that makes me think this might all be a drawn out vision is the name. A ton of people were upset about Kakaditz but that feels like a REALLY intentional choice on the writer's part. Kaka is a word for shit and ditz is a way of saying stupid or crazy. Saying their fusion is crazy as shit is a nice little play on words... but a little too on the nose to NOT be a joke to me. 1 Antworten

Personally, loving every bit of this. Kakaditz literally meants Sh*t Crazy and it's a perfect name for their union.
I DO still believe this is Elder Kai playing out future events as the warping of the panel a few pages back still has not been explained, that said, while I DO think Kakaditz can fully take Emperor Vegeta, he would totally be eclipsed by XXI. I think he's stronger even than Ultimate Gohan... but Super Sayain Zero Goku and Vegeta, Vegetto, Gast, and a few others are all going to be able to take him easily.
I DO wonder if the potential unlock that Raditz got transfers over to Kakarot when they fuse. If so, that would explain in part why Kakaditz is vastly improved over his previous self. I would also say that, to be completely fair, with as cocky as Raditz is, the hardest fight he probably ever had was against the Goku/Piccolo team up. We honestly do not have any clue what his "potential" is as he has only fought significantly weaker opponents up to this point and has never had the chance to excel.
I'm team Kakaditz. Immortality means you have broken the Zenkai Boost formula. 2 Antworten

Standing by the theory that they are not allowing the phone-a-friend because the androids are not a large enough threat to break precedent.
Death has little if no consequence in the latter half of Z and none at all in Super simply because of how powerful the Z Fighters and their enemies became. By Super they HAVE to let these guys revive otherwise the multiverse would blip out.
At this point? The Androids are a planetary threat with zero aspirations aside from Earth. Sure Cell exists, but not yet. There is even the chance that 17 and 18 could find him in his larval state and destroy him before he becomes perfect. Without Goku and Friends, it's arguable that there might not be enough energy on earth to revive Buu. In an uncomfortable way, this might actually be the best possible outcome, not for Earth, but for the universe as a whole.
Just because Goku and crew are the main characters of our glimpse into this world, does not mean that they are for King Yenma and others. 1 Antworten

Something to remember when talking about these androids, they are NOT the 17 and 18 from "our" universe. They could be stronger, weaker, or anything in between. Trunks mentions that 19 and 20 did not exist in his timeline so we already know that there are differences.
As for Gohan, we also have to consider who is left to train him. If he is the strongest fighter left of earth, the only powerful opponents he has to go against are the androids themselves. In our timeline he had Goku and the hyperbolic time chamber. We also know that Gohan typically doesn't train unless he HAS to.
After Goku dies of the heart virus, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Gohan went back to being a scholar, assuming Piccolo and Vegeta would do the heavy lifting. 1 Antworten

I'd say his decisions are actually pretty par for the course in the Dragon Ball universe.
— Goku allowing Vegeta to escape Earth
— Healing Frieza on Namek
— Krillin destroying 18's detonator
— Vegeta allowing Cell to become perfect
— Healing Cell and tossing Gohan to him
Almost every arc in Dragon Ball is the product of someone giving someone else the benefit of the doubt. There's actually a fun fan manga where Vegeta goes to Earth instead of Goku and we see what happens if they DON'T do that.

5. Goku be-friending the Cell Jr.
6. Piccolo bossing Vegeta and Bra around.
As much as I like this story: I am eager to see Vegetto and the others reaction post this conflict.

Bardock has had visions of things after his own death. He sees the future, not necessarily from his own perspective.
The biggest lore drop here... Krillin became the Turtle Hermit because he now has a criminal record and couldn't become a Police Officer.
In all seriousness, I am thoroughly enjoying this. Krillin has always been my favorite character. I'm a sucker for the underdog who is out classed but shows up anyway because his friends are there, because it's the right thing to do.
Yamcha 17, Warrior Videl, what I assume is the death of Master Roshi, these are big questions I really want to know the answers to. Does Cell look different without Sayian DNA? Did Krillin actually connect with his Districto Disc in any of the big fights?
I wonder if Yamcha 17 has anything to do with how differently Krillin could have handled the Red Ribbon Army. Perhaps they joined forces to fight Buu? So so so many questions. 3 Antworten

It gives us some backstory but more importantly it gives Asura time to draw the next chapter. The art in the last few bouts has been insane and as we work towards the championship round it will only get more epic... thus needing more time to draw everything.

It's 4th wall breaking comedy. That Varga has been shown to be something of an audience stand-in. Furthermore, they played on this belief and subverted it in an amazing way. All of this is something Dragon Ball, and Toriyama in-general, does constantly. It fits perfectly within a fan comic of Dragon Ball and is in no way the author actually commenting on the writing being bad.
Outside if the fact that it's a reused panel, there's not exactly anything funny about pointing out Goku ending the fight in one hit (again)...
The comedy here is simply the fact that they didn't see what happened, which isn't a 4th wall break.

I see this less as comedy and more showing that we're all caught up to the timeline now. Either way, after the glory that has been the last dozen pages or so, I'm absolutely not gonna knock the write or artist. Asura probably needed to copy a panel or two because all his tablets are on fire from that art.

If anything, this should inspire him because now that means he can do this as well. I just don't get the clinched fist of frustration from Vegito from this fight.
Vegetto was actually pissed about Buu and Gast's OPed magic abilities earlier and XXI's magic. He could very well mistaken what Goku and Vegeta did as magic since their powerup is similar to Gohan's (who got it through magical means).
That said I doubt this is what sets off Vegetto but I can see him being ticked off that he got outdone by Goku and Vegeta cause they took an avenue that Vegetto may have mistaken for being magic-based.
Vegetto likes a challenge but he also likes being better than everyone and takes a lot of pride in his strength.

This. I don't think this is what sets Vegetto off but he is definitely pissed. In his world there is nobody stronger, there is nothing to drive him to excel. U18 Goku and Vegeta have each other. I don't think they could, individually challenge him (though I AM calling a Gojeta vs Vegeto final fight now), but they are far stronger than either of his halves ever were.

Hence, i wouldn't call it Supersaiyan-ish in any way. So no "Supersaiyan Zero". I admit to You it is a very cool Name, though.
Except they kinda are accesing all of their SSJ powers and their full potential in this state, without an actual transformation. So it makes sense. Plus the 0 in SSJ 0 kinda makes your argument of it not being SSJ-ish form invalid, the 0 already make it clear it's not a SSJ form, howeever they are accesing those powers. PrinceOfTheHood was saying: South_Ferry was saying:
Guys, do you prefer Super Saiyan Zero or ULTRA MYSTIC as a fan made name for this form
Their Eyes were glowing somewhat, jeah ? But there is not telling IF it was in the turquoise Supersaiyan Color, since this Comic has no Color usually.
The name is actually perfect if you think about it ;)
In my absolute strangest internet flex of all time, I coined Super Sayian Zero a few pages back and I'm super happy other people are digging the name. Another suggestion was Super Sayian Null.
I admit... I also like Super Sayian Zero because well... it shortens to "Super Sayian Z" and I just love how that all just kinda feels full circle-ish.
Today sagte:
Why dodge sideways when you could move away backward?
Oodles of reasons. For one, if you dodge sideways and your opponent over commits to the attack, now you can punch them in the side of the head. If you just move back, they just move forward and keep chasing you. Also, you generally have a better idea of what's beside you than you do what's behind you.
Freaking amazing art. This has got to be one of my top 10 pages from the entire manga thus far.
Bra's left ab sagte:
Regarding the name of this new form - why not "Apex" since it's the peak of the apes?
Other contenders are Zenith and Nirvana, though "Zenith" sounds a bit too close to "Zen" Buu for my tastes.
Max is taken by Cell Max, Ascended is taken by USSJ, Perfect is taken by Cell, Mystic/Ultimate are misnomers, etc. Honestly, I don't think there are any other good names left that aren't claimed by someone, somewhere.

How about Super Sayian Refined. Super Sayian Pure. Super Sayian Zero. Super Sayian Null.
Personally, I like the all for different reasons. 2 Antworten
First off... I love how diverse this chat is. One day we're talking about Mary Sues and today we're talking about the Theory of Relitivity. That said... and I love you guys... you missed the plot.
I wasn't talking about the theory of relativity, I was talking about relatavistic speed and that is NOT a theory. Drive down the highway and look at a car that is going faster than you. That car may he traveling at 70mph... but from your perspective driving 65mph, it looks like it is moving away from you at 5mph.
These guys are moving so fast that, given the fact that the ki blasts are still shown after the final punch, the blasts themselves would appear more like stationary or slow moving orbs/beams to the fighters themselves even though the audience witnesses full speed blasts.
That sets us up for the possibility of some really clever use of the arena, turning it into a 3d minefield. Where lightspeed comes in, and it is arguable that moving so fast you leave an after image is proof that folks in DBZ ARE capable of it, is the max speed of the energy blasts.
And yes, I get that it means Master Roshi was capable of light speed back in OG Dragon Ball but I think we can all agree that Akira Toriyama has ALWAYS played it fast and loose with power scaling.
Now the fun question... assuming DBM does a cop out on the Goku v Vegeta winner (and I won't be upset if they do) are we going to see the Vegetto v Gojeta What If?

Ki Blasts are OP in low level fights because they can reach out and touch somebody further and faster than you can... think playing Street Fighter with anyone who just learned how to do Haduken.
As the fighters get stronger and faster though, we start seeing them dodge and even outright outrun the fastest beams, sure there are some intentionally slower ones but IF physics exist remotely similar to how they do in our world, we have the speed of light to contend with and thus a speed limit.
Goku and Vegeta are moving at relativistic speeds right now, something Zen Buu briefly touched on many moons ago. This means two things for these ki blasts:
1. They either need to be used at point blank or
2. Somebody is gonna get super technical in a moment (my money would be on Goku) and start using the ki blasts that, are moving at the speed of light to everyone else but crawling to them, and turn the battlefield into a pinball table.
Also... calling it now. The next few pages will show that drop of water and Vegeta hits the ground when the droplet does.
Amazing art as always. I'm so happy I found his comic years ago and have had the honor of watching it mature.

My only qualm here, and I mean my ONLY qualm, is how physics are just for cinematic purposes in this fight.
The entire bout lasted less than a second. Rocks and debris should still be rising, not falling. The art is so amazing that I don't care though.
As for calling a winner, we haven't had a count down yet. Vegeta could still get up...
My money; however, is on we will NOT get a winner in this fight. Not in the traditional sense. Vegeta is going to get up for round two and the fight will be interrupted, likely by Vegetto.
Goku v. Vegeta is an age old question that I doubt will be answered in the next few pages. 2 Antworten

Does this "stronger than you" being get taken care of before Buu blips out to his own universe? Or is Uub about to enter the ultimate trial by fire? 1 Antworten

I will say this, this page gives us useful insight into Zen Buu's clones. They aren't a hive mind, they are more akin to Naruto's clones in that the moment they form they experience their own sentience.
Look at the surprise on the Zen Buu clone's face as he looks over his shoulder. They are completely unaware of the annihilation attack that is already happening.

Waiting to hear the explanation and see the fallout. Vegetto is rightfully ticked as this is the third battle in a row that XXI has won via trickery.
That said, I can see zero way for Bra to stand a chance against XXI, especially after the way they handled Vegetto. Gast is still a bit of a wild card as we know he has access to powerful magic, though from what we have seen, not as powerful as XXI's.
Simply from a plot standpoint, and if we pretend the rabid Vegetto and broken dragon ball and Yamcha being the strongest visions didn't exist; I would say that Gast would win against Bra but ultimately lose against XXI so that Goku comes in with the win as is DBZ custom. 1 Antworten

I love how everyone is saying "This is it" like the next page won't just be Vegeta screaming and panels shaking in true DB fashion.
We got a page or two of stall before we see this new trick ;)

It seems like Cell is speaking to the refs here asking why they aren't counting though that feels out of character here. I hope it's directed at Vegeta though, questioning why he is still holding back. Neither are showing battle damage beyond scuffed armor so we're not done yet.
My longshot prediction is that Vegeta has indeed unlocked a new transformation but rather than SSJ3 it is more in the vein of SSG2 or Ultra Ego. Continuing the trend of Vegeta's character development in other mediums of striking his own path rather than always chasing Goku.
As for the fight itself, I'm chalking the opinion that this battle feels "softer" to stylistic differences with the artists. These punches should be hitting with the same weight as those thrown in the Majin Bra arc... they just don't seem that way.

It tickles me that people are still talking about "tiers" of power.
1. We have yet to witness Vegeta go all out.
2. NEVER has Vegeta accepted being vastly inferior to Goku.
3. This comic has shown in multiple instances that Technique > Raw Power.
In the end, the winner will be whomever the writer wants to win. Power levels are largely useless at this point. Every single contended is a Planet Buster.
I will state; however, this fight is far more tame than I anticipated. The creation of Perfect Cell was a beautiful example of Vegeta's hubris. I expected far more ground shaking blows and less hide-and-seek. 1 Antworten

It baffles me that people are still trying to compare power levels when Akira Toriyama himself said they were bogus.
In the paraphrased words of Stan Lee, "The victor of any fight between powerhouses is whoever the Writer wants to win." 1 Antworten

I'm not used to the new commenting system yet so I used in in those three words as a stand in for italics, bold, or underlined text.
What gets me is everyone calling this an ass pull when it's completely in character.
Goku has a history of saving special moves and transformations until the last minute so he can enjoy the fight. He also has a habit of developing said things off camera and then not telling anyone. His SSJ3 transformation is a perfect example of this.
Uub was trained by Goku since childhood and by the very nature of when this takes place, there has been a LOT of "off screen" time.
This isn't the first manga to go into humans achieving higher levels of Kioken either... and it makes sense. If you can transform you don't NEED to keep training the technique that is a work around for something you can already do. Humans, on the other hand?
I also dislike the idea that Zen Buu taught Uub this because, as previously stated, it makes SENSE that Uub would have 1. recognized the difference in biology and 2. Developed his own techniques as he grew into his own identity beyond "trained by Goku."
Uub has already shown in the last few panels that he is a brilliant fighter, copying the solid after image technique after just seeing it. Uub is badass capable in my book. 1 Antworten

I mean... I get it. They can just wish the planet back with the dragon balls...
But seriously, completely destroying a planet and all of it's inhabitants should carry a significantly higher toll than a scolding.

If nobody else is gonna say it... I'll say it.
Goku (and Piccolo) killed Raditz for a kidnapping attempt. Cell was killed for wiping out cities. Bra just wiped out an entire solar system.
Vegetto would have been 100% justified in tying Bra to a tree and giving her the Old Yeller treatment here.

While I know Super is not cannon to DBM, it bugs me that Goten is so weak. He's the only son Goku has that actively WANTS to train.

I'd also invite folks to look up the mono-myth. It's a story pacing that takes place in almost every hero story from Star Wars to Superman to The New Testament. The Hero HAS to fall before they rise again otherwise there are no real stakes, nothing is learned or gained, nothing overcome. Many people were upset with Bra because her 'conflict' wasn't more direct. Goku has had virtually none thus far. His only 'difficult' fight was against Frieza and even in that he wasn't going all out.
The hero HAS to fail before their journey can continue and that is just what we are seeing here.
For those keeping track at home we still have the following to resolve:
— Where TF is Uub?
— Vegetto going nuts
— Raditz Mystic power doing something
— XXIII's alliance 2 Antworten
