It's literally stated by Elder Kaio that the Potaro earrings give an increased power. See it like Goku's power level is 5 million and Vegeta's is 5 million Potaro earrings are 1 million so 5m + 5m + 1m = 11 million. On which the Fusion dance would only be 5m + 5m = 10 million. (this is an example dunno current power levels)

Goten and Trunks weren't fighting syncronized and they were wearing a suit, thats something completely different from a fusion.

Don't forget that even Vegetto himself was surprised how strong he actually was, while Boo stated something about the two being no match for him even when fused (while he chased Goku I think).
So, I personally think the Potara fusion really is better... but perhaps it had some kind of effect that Vegeta was dead and Goku still living... perhaps that helped as well somehow (for instance a SSJ3 dead Goku was no problem at full power while a SSJ3 living Goku didn't work).

when goku fought uub he was equal to him (since uub has the power of buu he is as strong as a ssj3goku from the buu saga. wich also means that the goku who fought uub at the end of dbz is as strong in his normal state than he was as a ssj3 when he fought buu. because he trained. he never stoppes training. and even after that, he went training with uub, so this goku here must be even stronger than that. which also means that he is far stronger than ssjvegetto from the buu saga. and because vegetto had a reaaaaaaaaaly egocentric character , I dont think that he trained after beating buu. (well, at least if you go by the original characters.) so this goku should be stronger than that vegetto, at least theoriticaly. but I guess the writers cant concentrate on everything in such a big multiverse story, so thats no offense, just a thought.

Well I did remember reading a page in the Buu saga from the words of Vegeta's Mouth or something close to this... "HELL NO! I am not doing that stupid fusion dance!" Then again should the fight occur, Vegeta may once again have to sacrifice his pride and ask "the clown" to do the Fusion Dance.
Vegito is a permanent fusion and doesn't run on a time limit, Gogeto is a temporary fusion and does run on a time limit. Vegito from universe #16 may be technically stronger while our universe #18 Gogeto... I mean Vegeta and Goku were smarter to consider that they were able to defeat and reincarnate Buu without the permanent fusion and good planning.
Another thing: To Saber: Yeah you're probably right considering it would be literally HELL for Vegitto to have two wives, knowing Chi-Chi's and Bulma's behavior and attitudes, at least this way he'll take less crap from the two... if a little LOL
